The problem is fans have conflated the terms "superstar" with "all star" as if "super star" is the next level from "all star" but it's not even related (see Carmelo Anthony), and if you misuse something long enough eventually it becomes the norm (See even people like Trey Gowdy saying "this begs the question"). Super-star" is a celebrity term, and to be a celebrity you have to be recognizable by face and name to a lot of people. Kawhi isn't recognizable to most people.
I think coach Nick is being pedantic. Kawhi is for sure a star in the NBA. He's just not a star outside of it. He doesn't have a high profile, intentionally too I might add.
