Warriors showboating like mother ers.
I remember I was in hschool when Hill was playing with a bad ankle during the '00 playoffs. From what I remember back then was that Hill felt that he had to play to show people he wasn't soft despite being in extreme play. Also according to Hill that the Pistons withheld info about how bad his ankle really was. Hill has been on record saying if he had known how bad his ankle was that he would have never played. It's a huge reason why he left Detroit during FA because of the way they handled his ankle situation.
Spurs get blown out the next 3 games...Leonard becomes Grant Hill 2.0 with glass ankles...
Warriors feel they are invulnerable supermen now.
They will swagger the Spurs to death.
I did the unthinkable and rewatched the meltdown. The Spurs lost the game because the following players couldn't handle the moment:
1. Lamarcus Aldridge was awful when the team needed him most. He's lazy, out of shape, doesn't like contact and folded in the spotlight. He committed at least 3 or 4 turnovers in the post, missed easy shots, failed to grab critical rebounds and played with no tenacity. He's a shy ing child in a grown up's body. I don't know what else to say. If not for Pau's age, I'd say these two spend their free time together having tea parties. Just sickening. So much depends on Aldridge's play and he was M.I.A. in the clutch.
2. Pau Gasol - Was absolutely putrid on switches and closing out on Curry. He was constantly pushed out of position by Dubs players big and small on offense. Just awful.
3.. ZaZa P. - Besides the obvious reason he belongs here, the amount of illegal picks he got away with was comical. Patty was manhandled, grabbed & pushed by ZaZa. I'm fine with it as long as someone on our side does the same thing and gets away with it, or at the very least pushes that mother er back. That's what DWest did when he was with San Antonio. He didn't take any from him and let ZaZa know about it. When Pechulia picked Patty, Gasol made little to no effort to get out on Curry.
4. Patty Mills - Couldn't buy a basket on offense and didn't fight through screens on D. Didn't accentuate the obvious offensive fouls by ZaZa. Say what you will, but that big mother- er did what he did & got away with it. Hard to blame him for playing that way if refs won't call the fouls. Patty's partially to blame as far as I'm concerned. He didn't come ready to play. He even threw up an air ball.
5. Anderson got toasted by Durant when asked to guard him. Durant just ran right by him and got to the basket.
6. Ginobili - As good a scoring game as he had, he also added to the chaotic offense in the second half. He made his usual crazy-ass, risky passes when what the team needed was a little more veteran leadership and cool. Not good.
Those were the main culprits and reasons the Spurs lost the game. Draymond Green was a non-factor and the same with Klay Thompson. That's not going to happen again and chances are, the next game will be over quickly. In my opinion, if KL is out, Pop should give Murray, Forbes and Dedmon some run. Dedmon's youth and athleticism will allow him to close-out better than Gasol. He will also be sure to get rebounds that just don't land in his hands.
Murray held his own just fine. I'd trust him more to set the offense up, threaten with his drives and kick to Patty on the perimeter. This kid looks like the real deal for the future.
There's a chance the Spurs can compete tomorrow night but they will have to get their together on Defense and be disciplined and tough on offense. Don't play like scared pussies.
One thing Kerr learned from Phil was to take the over aggressive hacking defense to another level in the fourth. It you start it at the beginning of the fourth, they refs will have to adjust to you because they will not call 10 fouls in a row even if you commit 10 fouls in a row.
That's why teams like the bulls, Lakers, and Warriors always seemed to "really clamp down" on their opponents in the fourth an turnovers just start magically happening.
Time to pull another game 6 against the Rockets. Focus and surprise the Warriors when they have the inevitable letdown due to no Kawhi.
Houston had exploitable traits for the Spurs to target, even without Kawhi..defensively, Harden was their only consistent creator, there was no fear of guys like Gordon and Lou Williams..offensively, the Spurs could attack 2 of the worst defensive players in the entire league(Ryan Anderson and Harden)..they milked that, all game, where even Danny Green was consistently beating Harden off the dribble..
Against the Warriors, it's going to be extremely difficult without Kawhi, as we saw in the 2nd half..once the Warriors turned on the ball pressure, Manu was probably the only Spur that was able to play through it..they don't have any defensive liabilities to expose, either(contrary to the belief based on his appearance, Curry is far from a bad defender)..
I expect a very gritty performance by the Spurs - don't know whether they will win or not but I'm not ready to count the Spurs out yet. That's a big mistake.
I have to ask. What happened with Nazr Mohammed?
Heh Kyle was a minus 3, not a huge run by GSW when he played. Yes Durant went by him ONCE bc he gambled. Once when Durant had like 40 pts. Again a minus 3 for him. I thought LMA, Pau and Patty were most to blame for the same reasons you mentioned. Patty makes one of those 3 and Spurs win, mbut also I thought Simmons in the second half was bad. Cant complain much about him bc he was out of his depth with a LMA that folded but he was part of the group that wasn't grabbing a rebound and couldn't get a stop. He made a ton of mistakes, slipped a couple of times and had his own share of either a TO or bad shot. Again he competed and did what he could. Danny also had his share of TO and bad passes by the way...
Don't know about you guys.. but I am so ing pumped for Game 2..
No Parker, No Kawhi, all they playing is the killer instinct in their eyes..
This game is going to be intense..
sadly GS is not Houston ... blowout win for the home team ... start Murray tbh
So they won't win by 40 just 2-5 point close game if they give that same effort. The Warriors will also have the inevitable let down due to no Kawhi.
I think anything that looks remotely like retaliation is going to be called a flagrant. (and from the Warriors side retaliation for perceived retaliation) Intense game with lots of whistles, lots of video reviews and dumb double technicals. I expect at least one of these Warriors to get tossed - Barnes, West or Pachulia or Green. For the Spurs, maybe Lee, Simmons, Dedmon or Bertans. Closer game than people expect. Outcome - toss up.
Blow out. I think Pop will sit LMA and maybe Gasol.
lets hope so, I just do not see it happening
Lots of celebratory dance conga lines, donkey flexorama, eliancito mouthguard macarena and Durant Ethiopian New Year Shimmy Shake
It will basically be the Castro District on a Friday night
A 40 point blowout
This, tbh.
GSW are not the Rockets.
My own personal Fantasy Island scenario:
The very first time a Warrior player goes up for a jump shot, a Spur stretches to get a foot under him. The crowd goes nuts, the Warrior bench goes nuts, and the Spurs player gets tossed.
The very next time a Warrior player goes up for a jump shot, a Spur stretches to get a foot under him, and the arena goes ape- crazy. That player gets tossed.
A ref comes over to "have a talk" with Pop, and he screams until the ref sends Pop to the locker room.
The very next time a Warrior player goes up for a jump shot...
But that's not the fantasy. The fantasy is picturing the look on Silver's face when he realizes that this is the plan. They can't foul out the whole Spurs team during the playoffs. And they can't suspend all those players for the next game, and totally trash the playoffs. And Pop does a presser from the locker room and says that they made sure not to actually hurt anyone - it was just a legitimate form of protest and solidarity. It's the moment where that bald-headed- realizes that he's ed, no matter what action he takes. Or doesn't take.
"It's the plane, boss! The plane!"
Kerr is a treacherous little . Always was. He'll sit Pachulia, and the Dubs will win by 20+, and Kerr will claim it was "the right thing to do", as if that evened things up. The media will bite, and rave about how the Warriors blew the Spurs out, even though they were short-handed. And they will blow Kerr for the next couple of days, for his honorable act.
End of 1st & 3rd quarter will be the telling story for this game w/o KL.. If we can be within 5 pts (up or down), I like Spurs chances of keeping it close in 4th and pull out a win.
Serious question, Did the warriors ever dominate us in the 1st game? I think pop found a way to defend them. The key is having our guys locked in. They've been playing staggering Defense since Game 6 of the rockets series.
No I don't believe so, I think made couple of bad reads, & got caught ball watching on some plays where we gave warriors multiple attempts down the stretch and that was it.. Take 1 of those away and we probably hold on for the win..
