Because champions are not only based on talent alone but also character. Many were more athletically skilled than Duncan, but they lack the leadership and sacrifice to build a championship team. I'm not sure about the Greek Freak maybe he does, but I think Kawhi has demonstrated that, his willingness to be coached to become a better player, I'm sure he is stepping back to acclimate Aldridge in the system, etc. letting a proven Spurs system work. So if it's not broke, why fix it?

While Giannis has an insane athleticism, the Spurs never relied on super-freak athletes in the last 20 years.

Kawhi's still the most consistent player but comparing both it's all a matter of taste. Do you like an explosive athlete? Do you like a steady, stoic, silent assassin?

However, if it becomes clear this season that Kawhi is trending toward "Injury-prone" category
This from the guy who made a thread saying that dental prodecure, gastroenteritis, pink eye, cold...are injuries. So funny.

Kawhi is better today. Giannis will be better tomorrow.

    We're contending today.

No. With Kawhi we know what we have on offense and defense. And probably more.

Is that a fact? Anthony Davis was going to be the next Duncan.

So, we would win 80 games if we trade Giannis for Tony and Green? Ok.

Dunno that kawhi needs to be a Spur for life, but no to that trade... even if theres a chance he's injury prone, Kawhi at least has gone all the way once... has that experience, knows what it takes.

It'll never happen anyways, but I wouldn't do it. Kawhi, despite his worrisome injury history, is our guy. Already a Champion and a Finals MVP. 2x DPOY. Just turned 26 and is entering his prime. Most humble, team-oriented superstar in all of professional sports, etc.

Giannis is great and is only 22 (turns 23 in 6 weeks) which is scary because he still has a lot of room to improve, especially jump shooting where he's still poor (career 28% 3-pt shooter). I think people saying yes to this are just forgetting how good Kawhi is because they haven't seen him play in a while. He's top 3 in the league when healthy (#1 on any given night) and the best perimeter defender in the league. I'm taking him.

Careful with a logical and reasonable take! I concur that being there and having gone all the way puts him in a different class. I'm really happy for Kawhi and think he has a bright future ahead of him, hopefully as one the Spurs!

No not a chance. Kawawwa is on LeBron level. In fact he was a quarter away in Game 1 from being compared(rightly or wrongly) to MJ after having taking those 4 all stars to the cleaners.

Agree. Though that should be a foregone conclusion.

Imagine not drafting him. Cleveland took Bennett with the number 1 pick that year.
Good thing too. Would you want him next to LeBron?

The choice between Kawhi and Giannis is pretty easy. With the shot clock winding down and you need a bucket, who will you turn to?

, even Rudy "not that guy!" Gay has outplayed the Fake Greek in the head-to-head matchups.
