I can't wait until you find what Drunkford did last summer.
Gasol is only under contract for two more years and his good games aren't uncommon, he's a high IQ playmaking bigman who can shoot. It's maybe not worth the money but it's not a bad tool to have in your belt. Mills is overpaid but it's not a franchise-destroying contract. However having a "superstar" who can't play half the season, who's making supermax money, and can't play at a superstar level anymore will put this team into a long dark age.

Unfortunately for him, he's not getting that payday. He'll take about a $35M haircut in guaranteed money losing the SuperMax because of his lack of trust. If he leaves the organization where they trade him, that's one contract year and another $40M of guaranteed money gone.

The Spurs have a HISTORY of conservative injury return protocols, as well as taking care of players when they get older, making up for some of the pay they couldn't get on the front side of their careers on the back side. By saying he's worried about being IT'd, that says that he doesn't trust an organization built on trust. That broken trust will lead to his departure.
Jesus you sound like a jilted ex girlfriend You might be butt hurt because of everything you read. Bottomline is we don't know what is going on with the Spurs and KL camp. The only thing that really sucks about all this is KL himself has yet to deny rumors/speculation and explain why he hasn't been with the team during this PO.

    Agree

Most likely to the spurs advantage. He can't get supermax anywhere else and spurs have very good reason to not offer the full supermax... 40M is a nice cushion plus the fact that he would only want to be traded to a team he would want to extend with puts even more money in jeopardy.

I have a bad feeling for Kawhi that this injury is career altering at best and he's trying desperately to keep it secret and/or hope it fully resolves and not risk his next contract....problem is, he and his PR crew are putting it in jeopardy anyway with how they are handling it. I mean not showing any support for your team, not giving updates, and then trotting your sister out on Twitter to defend you? Pretty weak

That these are the players jobs/careers and even though they are athletes and it’s not apples to apples, that taking care of yourself to secure the most money you can is what everyone would do in their own jobs.

So the business side of the nba is you don’t put yourself at risk if you aren’t 100% in a situation like Kawhi is in where he’s due one of the largest contracts in nba history.

must be the business side of the NBA that explains why Kawhi let his sister and uncle do the talking to the fans...

At people still making definitive declarations.

Unless he requests a trade after whatever discussions inevitably take place or after doing inevitable due diligence, they're not satisfied medically, why wouldn't they offer the super max (with protections)? The likely alternative is getting on the treadmill of mediocrity.

They don't have to offer it on July 1st. As long as they're on the same page by then, they can slow play this, similar to the Aldridge situation. Get him back around the team in open gym, through training camp and into a few preseason games. If all systems are a go, offer it then.

Sure. But it's hard to relate when most of the players are making more in a year or two than 99% of people make their whole life. More so for the superstars. Leonard isn't going to find many that are sympathetic to him sitting out and getting paid $19,000,000 just so he can make $30,000,000 or whatever it is.

And I'd further add that to earn the supermax, you should be a badass-play-through-the-pain guy.

All that that being said, from an individual standpoint, Leonard may be doing exactly what's right for him.

Pop and RC just might be on he phone with Magic Johnson this summer, "So let me get this straight you want to trade your whole team for Kawhi?". They at least have to make the call to Magic to see if they would do Ball, Kuzma, Ingram, Deng, 1st round pick for Kawhi, Mills.

The Spurs also have a history of giving out big-ass loyalty contracts. If Kawhi wants to stay, he'll get the supermax.

Now that we know Kawhi is returning now all we have to worry about is getting rid of Pau and Patty. Oh, and finding more talent.
