Man, I kind of think they're going to offer it to him. If he really turns down that money they have a definite answer instead of all this media driven cluster . This is going to be awkward as if he signs it but honestly a little discomfort is manageable if you're regaining a player of Kawhi's caliber. I just hope he's healthy, mentally stable, and Uncle Dennis is put in his place. I really dislike what Kawhi has done these past few months (and let's not get it twisted, this is his fault/responsibility and his alone) but he's so goddamn good at basketball and is the perfect puzzle piece. We are contending every year of his Super Max if he signs it and returns to form. This is the ultimate card to play and I don't mind them playing it.

Because if they slow play this and he's forced to come to training camp, that means they have a month to begin to repair the relationship (and see if he's not damaged goods). No uncle to hold his hand and pollute the relationship from a distance, with leaks and spin. Just face to face, day in, day out.

Once the initial awkwardness begins to subside and he's back in the swing of things, it's possible things change, thereby paving the way for the offer to be made. If not or he doesn't accept, at that point they'll at least have exhausted all options before having to trade him.

Yeah I can see this being their plan. If they offer it to him and he turns it down they can be comfortable knowing they exhausted all options.

I find it hard to believe SA would offer the full SM. I think they offer something, maybe like 190M (so in line with what a team he’s traded to can offer) but I would be pretty surprised if they offered the full SM.
