I think the question should be "why Idris Elba as James Bond?".
And the answer is that the studio decided it would give them the max financial benefit.
It'd be naive to think that him being black had nothing to do with it.

When it comes to recording a record that would be in 1890 when George Johnson recorded "The Whistling Coon".
Also in 1890 we had the first group to record, that was The Unique Quartette with "Mama's Black Baby Boy". I'm sure both can be heard on youtube.
