Things didn't go as planned. Kawhi was supposed to fail away from Pop. Didn't happen so gotta throw some shade
This is hilarious because for a way of life Kawhi didn’t appreciate, TOR seems to be using the Spurs play book on keeping him fresh/healthy as possible an awful lot. Sitting him out B2B, rest games, managing minutes, etc..

Glad Kawhi left! He didn't waive his towel or take "frogging" selfies with the guys like Patty does! Who cares about getting 60+ win seasons and WCF appearances if we don't have fun and take time to learn about other cultures!

It’s nice when the locker room leader is also the on-court leader. Spurs lost all of that remaining magic with the departure of Manu and Parker. I see this becoming DeMar’s team if the Spurs decide to build around him. We’ll see who the players rally around. That’s the sign of who the real leader is on any team. Lots of guys talk like alphas but have no respect from their teammates. We’ll see how this group evolves.

Patty’s good for this transition of the brand, probably not the long-term leader of the squad. If so, the Spurs are probably destined for middle of the pack finishes for the foreseeable future.

Yes and no, according to Five-Thirty-Eight, ignoring leadership.

By the Carmelo projections, Mills was worth $21.0M in 2018.
They project Mills to be worth $10.6M in 2019 [this year], $10.3M in 2020 and $6.4M in 2021. That's $27.3M for the last three years on Patty's $37.3M contract.
But that's $58.3M for Patty's four year contract.

So far, by this season's Real Plus Minus Value Added:
Patty Mills is #115 [mid 4th man]

Omar Asik has the #115 highest salary in the NBA at $11,286,516.
Patty Mills has the #111 highest salary in the NBA at $11,571,429.

    And those are the tangibles.

Whether people want to believe this or not, in sports leaders do matter. There is obviously a point where that does not trump talent, but look at teams like the Wizards that have no leader. All the top paid talent and cant put anything together.

Mills definitely builds bonds with guys, keeps morale high and when the team is going through slumps that type of thing can help them at least not lash out like you see in Washington or on other teams.
Do patty mills on the wizards would suddenly make them good?

Maybe, maybe not... But he would help in other areas for sure. Off the court, communication, locker room/camaraderie, etc...

Probably not but maybe the case could be made that with all the recent big time departures they felt they needed at least one player who had a few years in the system stick around. The Pau thing they got burned since they had a handshake agreement and didn't want to renege but paying a Laker loyalties sure seems like a show.

Again there's been a clustering of issues this season that really highlight his inadequacies but money-wise I'm unsure what would dictate a fair contract to him, I figured this team would probably be better off with someone like Avery Bradley with how bad the defense has been but not hearing much about him in the last year or so I go and check on him and if he's not injured, he seems to be making pretty good money not really playing any better. Maybe its not fair since he hasn't played much and coming off injury and all.

So realistically getting rid of him who are the targets to get back understanding Pop's goal is to remain compe ive in the now and not in some tank/rebuild process.

Mills contract looks cheaper by the day with some of the inflated new contracts signed the last two years.

True. It's narrative busting but after a terrible start to the season Mills has been a top flight backup point guard for the last 15 games or so.

Yup. Mills had a negative season PP/100 all season but his play recently has been so strong that he’s actually a net +10 while on the court PP/100

Mills has been playing much better, yes, but I am still of the opinion he is a backup PG, not a starter. A backup should not be getting $12.5 Million annually.

I haven't minded Patty at all this season. Of course, his defense is infuriating. I wish pop will bite the bullet and make a trade, because the defense is only going to get worse once players start to rest.

    no!
But Pop is complacent now,he'd rather be the SJW/Moral conscious kinda guy

Hence 1st female coach,1st aboriginal player etc, regardless if anyone is actually good at what they do
He likes Pau cause they can talk wine and opera etc,on and on

He's always tilted at windmills his whole coaching career but TD21 covered up a lot flaws that are now laid bare
KL wasn't going to bring us another 'ship,TD is gone, until Spurs luck /tank into another generational talent again its gonna be a LONG cold winter
