There's a lot of whataboutisms being levied ITT

The question was what would happen if the dems had full power.

Depends which faction of the Dems, tbh... I do think there would be some consensus for single payer, for example. Would that include a handout to the 1%, BigPharma, etc? You bet.

Would you agree the affluent dems would be most likely to be in power, not the mid to low income dems? Unless you think these zoning issues in states like California are all because of a specific faction within the democratic voting base, then it should be accepted that, if the data is factual, the tendency to want change as long as it doesn't come from you isn't really a political issue, but more of a human nature issue. So regardless who's in power, the voters themselves are mostly wanting things done by someone other than themselves, in ways that don't require any degradation of their lifestyles.

And that this is true on local government levels especially, where a lofty goal will be introduced because it was demanded by cons uents, then dies in committee because of the same cons uents.

I don't know that affluent dems would necessarily be in power, but they would certainly be footing the bill of politicos in power. That works more or less the same regardless of being dem or gop though.
I do see that in local elections you have a teacher or a college professor running for office. I don't know if they often win or not, but the chances are certainly there.

The California zoning laws are a different problem altogether, IMO, and actually are not that different from other big cities like New York, for example, if you ever lived in those places are familiar with the rules. They're possibly a tad more stringent due to earthquake regulations.
The reality is that NIMBYs really come in all sorts of political colors, and they're just one of many problems on the actual crisis, which is housing, in this State. There were plenty of NIMBYs in New Jersey as well, when I lived there.
This is a vast State, and if you really wanted to build, there's plenty of places and areas you can do so at relatively modest prices.

The problem with big cities though, is that they're victims of their own success. Everybody wants to live in the city or surrounding suburbs. Big companies with big salaries are there. Demand is through the roof which drives prices way up, space is a premium, traffic sucks, people don't like long commutes. Homeless don't go to Apple Valley or the desert, there's nothing there for them. This is a way more complicated problem than people would like to admit. I'm not even sure what the actual solution looks like. You could allow everybody to build tall apartment buildings, but not everybody wants to live on those, and considering the demand, most of those will probably go to rentals.
The best I can think of is the State trying to grow other smaller cities into bigger hubs, but that takes a lot of time and money.

About change and doing things by other people, not sure that's true. Realistically, you see a load of Teslas here, and I'm not sure how much it takes you to break even in those, even with California gas prices. But a lot of people here, from what I can gather, actually do take it upon themselves to do something personally about the environment. Maybe it was the smog in LA for so long, who knows. Many of those people could be driving a Mercedes, BMW or Audi but they choose to go EV instead. I don't think a perk like access to the carpool lane (which is pretty full anyways) is really the driver here.

Like I said, Dems are far from saints, but I do think in certain areas there are consensus... you take a moderate like Brandon and you take AOC, and I do think there are some areas in environment, healthcare, education where there is some overlap.

Rich liberals run your party. In essence you're saying the liberals are as bad if not worse than neo fascists. That makes them much worse than your run of the mill conservatives. Why do you continue to support them?
Stopped reading after "in essence" because i am not interested in yet another of your strawman logical fallacies.

You directly said the neo-fascist party didnt do the same thing. Addressing your comment directly is not a whataboutism. Cant have it both ways.

Of course affluent dems will be in charge.

I'd say most people who drive a Tesla aren't doing so to save the world. There are other vehicles out there that would be just as "green". They are doing it because they like Teslas and because it projects an outward message of being green and progressive.

There's no "neo-fascist" party. You're morphing into Boutons.

    Does that bother you somehow?

Do you somehow disapprove of whataboutism?

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
What used to be the Republican party seems to fit the bill.

The Trump party has risen from its ashes.

If it looks like a duck and goose-steps like a duck...

It doesn't just "project a message", it's actually putting your money where your mouth is, helps the environment and is certainly something they don't need to do for personal gain.

That's what the affluent dems want you to think, and you do. Never mind supporting low income housing in their neighborhoods, just buy a Tesla and suddenly they are supporting green initiatives. Hey, I recycle so I am totally saving the planet.

The biggest NIMBYs (as eloquently put in this oped: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-e...531-story.html) here are affluent republicans and counties, who, BTW, love to drive their Porsche because they truly don't give a .

Their solution to homelessness is to outlaw it and put the homeless in jail, which coincidentally is what most other states that have the same problem do. The real challenge is figuring out what a real, humane solution to homelessness looks like, and I won't deny that California hasn't figured it out yet.
