I do worry about how seriously President-Elect Trump takes the idea of attacking Mexico, even COIN-style. Just seems like a bad idea.
Any country that permits and encourages foreigners to pass thru their country and invade America are crumb-bums. I'd lock that Mexican border day 1 and it would stay locked for at least 4 years. I wouldn't even even give them the time of day.

It will be pretty funny if Joe rides out on a pre-tariff purchasing wave and rubes get nostalgic about late 2024 though they can't quite figure out why.
Bottom line? Joe is riding outPERIOD

His top rung like Kamala's & Hillary's before him were set on that curb by Trump..."Now, say good night."

    Trump's a notoriously weak reader
By God he made President twice on your time, Winester.

    "Oh, January 6th."
    "Oh, Pence almost got shot."
    "Oh, he'll do 20 in Sing-Sing."
    "Oh, Effy is gone."
    "Oh, Splits is AWOL."
"Oh, the Magic Negro is in despair except he came into the Presidency worth 4 million dollars. Left 8 years later with 71 million dollars."
    "tee, hee."

tariffs hit farmers in the breadbasket last time -- leading to billions in direct public subsidies

again, the issue isn't whether tariffs are good or bad in the abstract, it's whether the hit to consumers and businesses is worth it.

starting a trade war with our number one trading partner maybe isn't the greatest idea, unless we get something that's well worth pissing them off.

Tariffs as internal discipline is underemphasized

Trump just threatened the whole US auto sector, now he can squeeze them for favors and patronage, because they know Trump does not give a and will wreck their

The whole trope of Trump egging on recession and austerity via tariffs walks hand in hand with impounding appropriations. Trump is turning the USG into a giant patronage machine controlled by Trump, with Congress and the courts there in an advisory capacity. El0n hacked the treasury, so Trumplandia can turn off the money spigot on anything.

Also, the tariff revenue can be redirected into Trump's new slush, er, sovereign wealth fund:

And unfortunately for gamers, rising prices are very likely to impact tech and gaming goods. As Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad pointed out on Bluesky yesterday, the tariffs on Chinese goods will impact video game consoles, smartphones, GPUs, laptops, and more, while the 25% tariff on goods from Mexico will impact phyiscal games.
