Just once, it might be nice to see a Walton thread fall off the page, but since I know that won't happen with this one, I decided to post this note.

"I would rather have Timmy than not"

hmm, I've been thinking about that.

I think when Tim is playing really bad, like tonight and vs Wiz, it would be, theoretically, better NOT to have him at all, which would force the other players to step up.

When Tim plays bad, we nearly always lose. But when Tim doesn't play at all, we don't nearly always lose.

ie, his negative impact is greater when he's having a horrible night than when he's not playing at all.

Of course, there's no practical way implement to this. No matter how bad he's playing, the Spurs alwasy will keep going to him even it means losing the game.

I can't remember Tim having a horrible night for 3 qtrs and then play MVP the 4th qtr. When he sucks, he usually sucks the whole game.

Well whaddya know, the IQ level of the board has gone into the inevitable tailspin after a loss. And Walton and Sequ are awake and feeling more inclined to make stupid posts.

Listen, I dunno if you've been watching the Spurs enough this season or even the past few seasons, but this is not a new phenomenon

Fact #1: The Spurs aren't really enthusiastic to play teams such as the Bulls and the Hawks in November and December. the 2002-03 Spurs were 19-13 over Oct, Nov and Dec 2002. Last year's Spurs were better at 25-6. The 2000-01 Lakers who were one of the strongest postseason teams we've seen were 22-10 over the same period. We are 16-4 now, playing .800 ball in freaking December. That, in my book, has exceeded expectations ... from a team that is clearly oriented towards the playoffs.

Fact #2: Tim Duncan is going to have a few bad games once in a while. That does not give you the license to and moan about, much less compare him to Webber. Duncan is averaging 21 ppg, 12 rpg, 3 apg and 2.7 bpg in 35 minutes while shooting 53% from the field and 76% from the FT line. "C-Webb 2k6" was 2nd overall in Hollinger's PER rating after Garnett and before Shaq, Amare, Dirk. That's how good he is ... worth every penny of his 17 mil. Unless you want a 30 ppg, 40% FG shooting 2-guard who'll be struggling to get his team to the playoffs, cuz that's also available for 17 mil.

Fact# 3: We don't get trophies for dominating in December.

    Zaza Pachulia: 7-13 FG, 13REB, 19PTS

    Absolutely embarassing......

Like I've said before, he's a God to the sheep of fullsportpress, he's an overrated slightly upgraded version of Chris Webber to anybody with a brain.

17 million dollars a year apparently buys you a 12 and 9 night against the Hawks these days.
Yeah, no other superstars who have played the game EVER had bad nights like TD did tonight...right moron?

I guess Jordan should be stripped of his GOAT le since he had the game above... according to your standards.

    Tim Duncan
    Game 3 NBA FINALS:
    5-15 14 points, 10 rebounds
    Game 4 NBA FINALS:
    5-17 16 points, 16 rebounds

    Game 3 WCSF:
    7-16 23 points, 11 rebounds (9-15 FT)
    Game 4 WCSF:
    10-19 35 points, 10 rebounds (14-17 FT)

Looks like you're only half-right GS21...but I do hear your point. Duncan does occasionally have bad games twice in a row, but very rarely.

Of course he is. I used to be just like some of these people, over-reacting when the Spurs lost or a player had a bad game, taking out my frustration by making wild, ridiculous claims like "TD is an overrated, slightly better version of CWebb," acting as if his salary was earned or not earned by his production on one particular night.

    Then I grew up.

Although, some of the claims that these doomsayers make are interesting. Like comments about Tim's aggressiveness or his age or his physical abilities. Sometimes (like against Washington or Atlanta) Tim does look a little tentative, but sometimes (like against Miami and Orlando) he looks like a monster. And the greatest fear I have, the thought that gives me nightmares, is that Tim is past his prime, that he is starting to slow down, that he can't be as dominant as he was in the past. But then I remind myself that the people who make those claims only pipe-up when TD has a less-than-stellar game, but remain utterly silent when TD dominates. I realize that they have an opinion that they feel must be correct at all costs, and harp on the evidence that supports it, but completely ignore the evidence that doesn't. And that makes me sleep a little better at night.

    Go Spurs Go!

I'm more upset about the lack of effort from almost all the Spurs but you have to be more upset that your superstar doesn't deliver when he needs to. Every great player has bad games but lack of effort is inexcusable. Normally when Tim knows he's shooting badly, he'll contrate on rebounding and defending but last night it didn't seem he even did that.

He just seemed to crawl into a s , playing passively and passing up shots. Taking 13 shots in a game where the whole team is struggling and you're the MVP is really lame - especially against a scrub team with a scrub fontline like the Hawks. Very uninspired play last night and very embarrassing.

Timmy is playing some of the best basketball I've ever seen him play. That new baseline spin move is freakin' incredible. It's quick, timed perfectly...and half the time, the defender hasn't even moved from his defensive position when Timmy is laying it in. It's priceless to see those "where'd he go" dumbfounded looks they have.

He's leaner, and moving better than I've seen him move in recent years. His FT% is increasing. I think the only thing taking away from his game...is the increase in TP's production. Less half court sets for Timmy when TP is driving and laying them in. And actually, I haven't decided whether I like that or not.

I've never thought TD was a good perimeter defender, and sometimes I wish he'd close the lanes a little quicker. But, he's always a monster defensive force inside.

I think the only thing holding Tim back this year...is the increased drag coefficient of his new doo.

    Shave that thing.
