Yeah, but they're starting from a much lower median value than Austin is.
I'm a one PM kind of guy.![]()

Hehehe...we will definitely consider it. We probably won't get to TX until October/November, and we'll have to come to SA for a visit. I've been there lots of times like I said, but I haven't seen it since 2001 and I bet it's changed!
Not really.
$130,000 vs. $161,000
Almost 20% lower can be called "much."
$386,200 in Boca Raton or $766,000 in San Francisco is "much" more not $30,000.
Once again, he shows his ass.
I lived in San Antonio for 18 years, and in Austin now for 7.
You don't need to slam Austin to build up San Antonio... there are people that will like SA better, and there are people that will like Austin better. San Antonio has a lot going for it. Focus on those strengths, Mr. Chamber of Commerce.
Personally, I could make as much or more money in SA and have a lower cost of living (but not as dramatically lower as it was five years ago), but as much as I like SA, I chose to stay in Austin because I love it here and there is so much more for me here than in SA socially, intellectually, and spiritually.
I would suggest doing the job search thing in both cities and find out what offers come in better, relative to the respective cost of living. They're both great cities with their own strengths.
Figure that with interest over a 30-year mortgage and then dig that amount from under your couch cushions, right?
It's almost 20% less. If I told Slomo he could buy a digital camera for 20% less in a different location, that might influence his decision.
Again, when you have markets out there that are double, triple, and in some cases quadruple both market prices, $30,000 isn't "much" more.
What?
Go to other forums, forums that rotate around city talk and the overwhelming opinion is that of mine.
What does it matter, someone is eventually going to come in here and say that Dallas or Houston kick both cities asses.![]()
If we were talking about other markets, you might have a point.
We're not.
And it's a very safe assumption you rent.
Why would you complain so much about something that works in San Antonio's favor?
Insanity.
I'm not complaining, it's just a simple word problem I have.
Being the cheapest major city in the country to live in is bad ass.
The thing is, San Antonio is now the fastest growing city in Texas and the third fastest growing metro region behind only Dallas and Houston.
A lot of that has to do with cheap land/cheap housing but even more has to do with the incredible job growth in the last 2-3 years as well as future job growth that is driving housing up the roof.
Oddly enough, I always found Dallas to be MUCH more fun than Austin. Austin has Dallas beat for physical beauty any day of the week and the people are much nicer, but I had more fun in Big D. I've never lived in SA so I can't comment on it!
Yeah, but it's still pretty darn cheap when you compare it with Austin which is the most expensive city in Texas by far. Parts of north Dallas put Austin on AVERAGE to shame, but overall the cost of living in Austin is skyrocketing, and SA will probably always be more affordable than the capital. Add to the mix the fact that everyone and their grandmother wants to live in Austin and you've got a recipe for enormous rises in housing costs; they just can't put 'em up fast enough, and there's a lot of land west of the city that they can't build on anyway so the growth is mostly north-south making for ish commutes. I wouldn't want to live in Round Rock just because of the commutes and buying in Austin proper nowadays means a shack and ty schools but decent commute times, or Round Rock and a mini-McMansion and a traffic nightmare five days a week. It appealed to me a year ago, but it just sounds like a giant PITA now!
I figured that one out last night
Picture taken in front of Hanks, just down the road from the General store.
I miss home.
Austin sucks unless you have a lot of money and live in the hills or near the lake w/ boat.
Whatever you do . D O N O T move to a northside school district.. the worst on the planet if you are going to have kids go to school.
Northside ISD is one of the best ISD's in the state.
Way too crowded, still none the less good.
I doubt that, seeing as San Antonio had more housing starts in 2005, they can't get them up fast enough here.
I have no complaints.
If you are including NEISD in that then I'll take exception to that also. My daughter has gotten a great education in the NEISD so far.
They're running out of room in Austin dude!![]()
Not really.![]()
