Should we bring out Dirk's stats from last year's Playoff series?
I'm pretty sure he led the Mavs on the 'pointing his finger and blaming other teammates' stat, but that's about it.

Dont bother, as they are meaningless as you. Fin won't be sinking with Squirk and the rest of the Mavs school of losers. He will be swimming with the playoff sharks of the NBA.
The difference in the two enviroments is huge! I know you are a little slow, but perhaps you will understand when you see it ... again in June.![]()

Same here. No one has ever questioned Fin's ability and talent. It's his consistency that I've often questioned. Too often with the MAvs, he came up empty when clutch shots were sorely needed.
I'm glad his finding his rhythm. I'll be more convinced when I see him knock down these shots consistently in the playoffs. Still like to see him go to the hole a couple of times too.
Yes, and please tell Mark Cuban..."Thanks!!!!!" for those big ol' fat checks he keeps sending to Fin.
Key it up Finley, I wasn't the impressed earlier in the season, but you've been coming up lately!![]()
Meh. I'm not a Finley hater, but I'm not his #1 fan either. I didn't really want to sign him or NVE, and as far as I'm concerned, they've borne me out on that. I'm happy enough to have them when they are making shots and doing well, but I really hate when they revert to their old selves and take bad shots repeatedly.
As with nearly everyone but Tony and Timmy (who are my favs) I can take or leave nearly anyone, depending on how they are playing in any given game.
Has anyone noticed that Finley is actually pretty energetic on Defense? He is looking younger as time has gone on. Or am I completely imagining this?
He has to. No D, no PT. Plus, less minutes on the court, he can spend on D.
The moral of this story is that if an opponent seeks to stymie Duncan and keep Parker out of the lane, there will be scoring opportunities for the enterprising vet.
Jackson has been the only coach to manage to defeat the Spurs in a postseason series since they've moved to the motion offense. I guess it's a little trickier when you don't have Shaq and Malone patrolling the paint.
Yeah, and Don Nelson claimed for years the guy couldn't play D. Of course, it's a matter of effort and desire.
Nelson couldn't coach defense if he was paid to do so. Oh wait, he was...
Both the Thompson brothers were saying last night that they think Finley is finally "getting it". They think he is finally figuring out the Spurs system and getting more used to his role on defense. From my point of view, I think his new-found overall maturity began when he realized if he wants a ring, he has to play Pop's way...and requested to come off the bench versus starting, saying that he thinks he's more effective that way. That was really big for a guy like Finley. Yes, I think he does look different. I don't know that I think it's younger, just more comfortable, happier, more at home in his own skin. And, yes, definitely more energetic.
I was never a Finley hater. I didn't like him, but it was because of stuff he did to us when we played against him (a la Robert Horry). Nothing personal. I didn't want them to sign him, either, but after they did, I didn't have any problem accepting him as a Spur. I'm still working on Nick.
pache100 if vanx will be playing better and better you will accept him?

Absolutely. Actually, I have sort of accepted him; I guess that's why I allow myself to be disappointed in him.
That's not fair, Finley hasn't played in that many playoffs rounds :-)
I think someone noted earlier in this thread that maybe had Finley not played 42mpg in Dallas, he may not have been worn out come playoff time.
Ithink you are right about him being more energetic. It may be because he's only putting in 20 some minutes a game. Or it may be, he sees that elusive ring at the end of the rainbow.. Something he may of dreamed of in Dallas, but knew was only a dream. Now it a reality. That could energize anyone.
I, too, was one of those that was worried about signing Finley, mainly due to his inconsistant playoff games in Dallas. I certainly knew the talent was there, and hoped he would come in and be what I knew he could be. Finally that is starting to show. I think Sean even mentioned last night that now his teammates are comfortable with him, and even look for him to knock down those shots. That tells me he has now fit into this teams concept. And I'm not surprised that it took him a half season to do that. Championship teams don't just accept newbies. They have to earn a place in the rotation. And the have to earn their teammates respect. Looks like Fin has accomplished both those things.
finley blowwwws
lets see him score more than 10 points consistently

His average is 9.9. So I don't think your quote means much.
The Spurs have their best record ever at this point in the year.
This despite Duncan and Manu having subpar seasons. Why?
Some of the credit, of course, goes to Tony's breakout performance, but it's not like he's been the second coming of Isiah. Bruce, has been solid, of course, but that's not enough of a reason either.
It's the depth. Everyone else has spent extended time both in the "sucking" and "making key contributions" category: Finley, NVE, Nazr, Rasho, Brent, Horry, Beno, Marks. For every one of those guys, you can find at least 1 or 2 games where they were a key to a win. For example, Barry did almost nothing all year, but then picked it up just just when we were really having productivity problems from Manu and NVE.
Not one of them has impressive stats. So I find it funny when somebody says "X sucks", because you could say that about any of them at one time or another during the year. Yeah, it would be better if we had 1 or 2 guys we could consistently count on. And for the playoffs, I think we absolutely will need that. So far, though, it's working.
I'm waiting for the Finley who can't shoot over 40% to return. Gotta love his 3-12 type of nights. heh?
well if 3-12 means he wil shoot 10-12 some nights then I can except that because that means he is consistent with his shot selection. Really that is one thing the spurs have lacked, an out side shooter who would consistently take the open shots and not let the misses effect his aggresiveness.
Finley was also creating a lot more of his own shots in dallas, instead of getting wide open looks fed to him from the post like he is now. Of course he is going to be inconsistent on fade aways and runners but on wide open jump shots I think he will be ok.
maybe he won't since his team has a consistent low post threat as well as 2 other teammates who teammates clog the lane for. he may come back, but maybe he is settling in to his role as a spot up shooter who consistently gets open looks.
