I think I've heard about two thousand variations on his actual contract. Is Scola's contract one or two more years or is it a complete mystery?
Maccabi has an offensive machine, that crumbles a naive team or individual efforts. Prigioni as a foundation after Ukic got sidelined was never enough for a le, not even against the Panathinaikos, but there Tau got saved on rebounds Scola grabed. Obradovic, coach, showed an open wound, and Israelis just sprayed a little salt all over it---and Tau died a horrible death. Argentina was simply not enough to hold the team together.
Scola is one of a player and no one will lower his price unless he has a safety plan well construed.
The fight of Slovenes was a great one.
CSKA won with Smodis being clutch. He got 17pt and 12 rb and played superbly against his fellow Fuchka with 2pt 10 rb and 5 blks.
With this game CSKA is qualified to play against the Spurs in Cologne tournament.
Here are the quotes:
CSKA Moscow forward Matjaz Smodis
"It's a great thing, especially breaking the spell. I think everyone is relaxed now. We were under pressure because of that fact, and I think that's why we started out playing bad in the first half. But then we started picking up our defense, making them take tough shots, and I think basically it was defense that brought us to the final. I think everyone is kind of proud, and we can celebrate tonight, but tomorrow is another day and we have to get ready for the final on Sunday."
"We knew we were not playing our best game, especially on defense. We know that if our defense is good, our offense will come, but if we ain't got no defense, we have a tough time scoring on offense. We knew that if we somehow hanged in there, we could turn this thing around. That's exactly what happened. We got a few stops, forced them to take tough shots, rebounded well and got a few fastbreaks, and that kind of broke the game."
"When they played the small lineup we had a little advantage in size with me inside. That was the objective, to throw the ball inside and look for shots outside or play one-on-one. We also suffered a lot their pick-and-roll from the very beginning. We did a great job at the end, and that's what counts."
"Maccabi is a good team, a great team, and they showed it in the first game. But I think we have our chances. If we manage to play defense for 40 minutes, and manage to contain their offense, I think we have a chance. Especially for me it's a little bit more important, since I still hold the minus-44 record from the last time I faced them in the 2004 final. At least I want to make a little better impression this time."
CSKA Moscow head coach Ettore Messina
“It was a tough game for us. Even when we were down by 10 in the second quarter, we just kept playing because we believed in ourselves. We kept doing our job and in the end we found our chemistry. It was hard because Barcelona has more players than us and we had to find another way. But we did it, it was hard but we are happy. My players played with great confidence and weren't afraid of losing even when we were down 12 or 13. We had the great combination of offense and defense in the fourth quarter that we needed. The technical foul on a and the triples by Langdon were the turning points in the game. When we were down 12, I think that the same referees were at the game as were in the end. You must respect your opponents whether you win or lose. I am disappointed to hear that Dusko would speak of a plot against him. He must have changed since he coached at TAU. We have a great deal of respect for Maccabi, but we'll do what we need to be successful. We need to do better against Maccabi than we did tonight. Six assists in the whole game will not be enough. After the way Maccabi played tonight, we know that no one in the building will put even one Euro on CSKA winning on Sunday. Smodis is one of those players who something good happens everywhere he goes. I'm happy already because we already got a chance to play in the NBA Europe tournament in Cologne. I might get a chance to coach against my young boys Manu Ginobili and Nesterovic.”

Do you honestly consider a one dimentional player like Ukic better than Prigioni?
Prigioni led Tau here along Scola, so they wouldn't have been in the Final 4, if it wasn't for their performances. He was the one that won the game against Panathinaikos with that steeal and clutch points. Anyone can have a bad day, specially point guards, , anyone can have a bad season. Just look at Jasikevicius: worshipped in Europe, a scrub in the NBA.
The whole Maccabi defense was set to stop him, he couldn't beat it, and that's it, he's still one of the best point guards in Europe, if not the best "pure" point guard.
I don`t know how good Prigioni is, because I haven`s seen him much. But I never liked Ukic, his play just doesn`t impress me, looks like he`s just shooting a lot...
Prigioni was great, but is still Tau greatest weakness. Shooting PG have at least a possibility to contribute when being isolated. Ukic is not one-dimensional, he could make great progress if he played a lot of compe ive basketball. Prigioni on the other hand needn't play more than on his assist to Scola (thats one rough estimation, I know) and was so easily cut off. Tau was being outcoached becouse Perasovic never knew Prigioni's limits until the Final4. And coaches need to know everything before such an event. Pini Gerson was better and Maccabi killed Tau.
i had enough of him and his contract situation.
what do you think of Smodiš's effect: 17pts + 12reb
SLrulezZ
Smodis got his ass kicked by a. And then zebras took over that ugly, ugly game.
it wasn't the best game of his life, but he did a good job on the boards.
Right, that`s why Smodis was the second best player of the game and a sixth...Smodis got his ass kicked by a.
T's made the difference. Slovenes were about equal for their teams. Both were clutch guys.
The most reliable info got in euro sources, say his buyout was about 14 mill Euros , however, if Tau doesn't let him go next season, the buyout would drop to less than 800K euros for this next season, so this next offseason, Tau has to let him go, if they want to get some good money, or they'll have to let him go for much less money the next year. If Spurs has limitations due the buyout, the best thing to do would be trade his right for anything the Spurs could use, to a team with enough cap space to handle the buyout, don't you think?
BTW, in the Maccabi game, even despite having his team a so awful game (the coach Perasovic was owned by coach Pini Gershon), he and Hansen were the only ones playing without getting annoyed by Maccabi pressure. He played very good D, and despite being so well guarded (it was too hard for Tau to send good balls into the paint), he managed to score 17 pts, grab 11 rebs, and give 5 asists (highest in gam, and remember, in euro rules, assist are harder to be awarded than in NBA, cause officials are quite more stricts before asigning an assist, it has to be a clear great move that ease the scoring of other player).

And which Maccabi game did you watch? Scola and his whole team looked like deers in headlights. His numbers got inflated in garbage time, when Maccabi played with their scrubs (last 15 min. of the game). This game ended at halftime. I like Scola, but yesterday he was pathetic, like his entire team and coach.
The game is on NBA tv right now
well if anyone cares... CSKA won the Euroleague.
yay for Smodis!![]()
CSKA Moscow
interesting
Did they beat Maccabi?
The reign is over....
Scola won the 3rd place by a great game by Tau's bench.
Smodis got his revenge. His 4th Final4 is making him a legend of Euroleague, soon to be compared with the likes of Alvertis.
You need to analyze better the FIBA play. When your PG isn't working and there are no good balls coming into the paint, inside players will have a very hard time trying to score. Even Duncan or Shaq would suffer when no balls are going into the paint, and with FIBA rules, it's even harder (do you remember Duncan in the olympics?)...
Saying that, it's obvious that Scola or ANY inside player would have had tons of problems to have a good game if their time was so owned strategically/tactically and the outside players so well defended.
That's why what Scola did has merit, and I'm talking about how he fought despite the awful situation, and had a very good defense to his pair, the problem was that he was left almost alone in the fight.
In the 3rd/4th place game against Barcelona, he wasn't supposed to play, cause his father has a severe problem and was sent into the hospital, he played despite that problem, I mention that for the ones asking why he didn't play so well in the consolation game.
A scouting report on final four and nba prospects :

An extract concerning Scola and his future :
I've made a quick google news search to find some news from Spain concerning Tau and Scola :The feeling in Spain is that Scola will finally leave for the NBA this summer. His contract apparently runs out in 2007, and Tau will likely prefer to cash in this year before losing him for nothing the following one.
- Scola leaving Tau is a possibility.
- No recent news concerning Splitter.
- Kaya Pecker will sign with Tau.
- Tau will maybe try to sign Nikola Vujcic (like Madrid and some NBA teams).
I haven't find a real answer but it's some clue that Scola can leave Tau.
