George Lynch?
You should listen to Cemetary Gates and tell me what you think.
Also, how about Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman? They should be included in the conversation for their work on Awaits and Raining Blood.
If you want to talk about pure evil and the horror of , they captured it better than anyone.
George Lynch?
fred frith
John Frusciante on guitar in "Under the Bridge" = classic.
Rumor has it Steve Lukather of Toto has some monster chops!! Listen to his solo on "Hold the Line".
Any of yall have a mp3 downloader? Download "Die By The Sword" by Slayer, there is a solo on that song that ranks amongst one of the fastest cruelest evilest soloes in history of music, I dunno if King or Henneman does it, but it ownz you.
DIE BY THE SWWWWOORRRD
This is what I'm talking about... it sounded really good until he started showing off his talent... then it just sounded like .
I'll take a slow simple Muddy Waters so-funky-you-can-smell-it groove over some shredder solo any day... just a matter of opinion.
yeah. "If you live by the sword, you shall die by the sword!"
That's some good .
Chemical Warfare, South of Heaven, and Live Undead are incredible too.
FYI, Slayer will be in SA this month. I will be checking them out in July in Long Beach.
LOL I remember that .. Chemical Warfare was a crazy song...
One drum beat the whole album.. well besides the double bass rolls.
"Chemical Warfare", " Awaits", "The Final Command" and "Reborn" are prime examples of Slayer at their peak.
I'm planning on going to the Slayer show in L.B. on 7/22 as well.
Honestly, I'm more interested in seeing Mastodon than Slayer.
If you haven't heard them yet, do yourselves a favor and give them a listen.
The drumwork on each song truly defies description!
well, that's your opinion. glad you at least took the time to check it out. he plays all sorts of stuff, doesn't always take it to where he did in that clip - but when he goes in that direction he usually brings it back to where he started. he also has whole acoustic albums that sound great, and loves to cover disney songs like a pirate's life for me, it's a small world, etc. as well as pure imagination. speaking of funk, he's one of bootsy's favorite guitarists to work with, they have had some awesome collaborations!

Technical guys like Satriani and Steve Vai....bah
They couldn't even begin to compare with the soul and emotion that Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughn had in their playing.

Listen to Five Minutes Alone by Pantera, it has one of the top 20 guitar riffs all time in it...I do not lie.
steve vai did the soundtrack for PCU!!
I like all types of guitarists. Steely Dan has some great guitar work. Larry Carlton and Walter and yeah, Steve Lukather has some great chops but is not very well known. I saw Steve Vai with Whitesnake and had front row seats and some of the stuff I saw him do was amazing but yeah, he doesn't have the "soul" that many other guitarists have. The slow hands of Clapton, BB King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and all the great blues players are legendary.
But I too like a great, finger flying solo.
bump for eddie hazel. if you doubt, go listen to maggot brain by funkadelic. the le track is a masterpiece composed after george clinton told eddie to play like his momma died.
Yeah it's pretty good, I also like "walk" by Pantera
paul gilbert taught buckethead how to play.
Love his Dream Warriors solo.
george lynch is pretty damn good
al di meola is who i was thinking of with the devil onthe spanish hwy song
and the guy from toto can shred. i remember watching an instructinal video of his years ago and totally blwon away by him.
and x three million on dimebag being awesome
and ill tipmy hat to kerry king
pfff
listen to Satch's 2003 album Strange Beautiful Music. When he was younger he was all about shred shred shred shred, and then shred some more. But he reaches a new peak of artistic expression in Strange Beautiful Music.
You can't hear a song that has an amazing solo only 500 people in the entire world could play, then slam it as gay just cuz he's "showing off"
There are multiple soloes in this album, but hte music itself, the structure, its all solid. Download "Belly Dancer" and "Mindstorm" and "THE TRAVELER" (second best Satch song EVER, after Surfing with the Alien)
Also, most people don't realize Satch even did a techno-electronic album. I forget the name, but it was an album or two before SBM. It had guitar, but it was laced with electronic beats and rhythms.
Seriously though, download everything you can from Strange Beautiful Music. This album shows you that he is an amazing artist, and not just a stereotype shredder showing off his incredibly elite talent.
His album after SBM, Is There Love in Space? sucks though. I only listend to it once and have never listened to it again. It only reinforces the fact that he overaccomplished anything he could ever hope to do on SBM. It was his peak, and people think his peak was back in the 90's when he was screaming with his Whammy Bar and breakin out 3 minute solos.
Noone mentioned Chet Adkins- guess he was before you all were born.
