I'd take the Derrick McKey reference as one that specifically excludes Keith Van Horn, since the two share virtually no basketball qualities.
My hunch, though, that Pop has someone in mind; the reference was a bit obscure unless you are targeting someone who specifically reminds you of Derrick McKey. And I be shocked if the Spurs believe that they'll get their McKey-type through domestic, unrestricted free agents.
I think Pop was just telling Horry to get into better shape.
It does to a certain extent, though he's likely not available.
Kenny Thomas doesn't remind me of Derrick McKey.
...and he has worked out at the Spurs' practice facility in offseason(s?) past.
