number 1. I agree with spurs need a long 3....but who's out there in free agency to make that happen lol seriously?/....the only "long 3's" 6'9" and up.in the nba....are darius miles...josh smith..lou deng....rashard lewis..lamar odom....and jared jeffries( who is a REstricted free agent)...<im all for getting him...but id bet all my money wizards match any offer in the Mid level exception........all the rest of the free agents rasual bulter...jamaine jones...are 6'7"-6'8".....id take a 6'6" JR smith over them anyday..because of his ability..age...and potential

number 2. Barry played up to his potential( which is good not great).. for a month and a half out of two full seasons....he is effecient from the 3....but all the other aspects of his game are dimenished ..and u can see it with the lack of confidence he plays with every time he gets his 19 minutes a game

....J.R. smith wouldnt take Finley's first wing off the bench role...but J.R. smith would be the second and still get 22-24 minutes a game

There'd have to be more to it than just Pietrus for Barry though. Any other names?
Probably Nazr. And from the W's, I don't know...Just a rumor I heard, I don't know how legit it is.

What you guys don't seem to understand fully is what could we get for Barry that's better than JR?

why do spurs need to trade him
they could get more for him next year his contract is shorter
who knows if he plays like he did after the trade deadline he never would have been almost traded

I would rather keep him, too.

I'm expecting a complete overhaul of the Spurs' bench, even including Ben Udrih, with Michael Finley and Robert Horry being the only remaining pieces. With young guards and Javtokas coming in, why not retain the ball-handler and glue-guy that is Brent Barry? He's still valuable for at least one year - after which he's even more attractive to teams.

If you don't need him halfway through the season, couple him with Eric Williams and you have a $9 million cap slot to go out and get what you need.

I can understand why people would want Pietrus over Smith, myself included, but Pietrus is not a forward, he is also 6'6 & a SG...there's basically no chance to get Pietrus without taking one of their horrendous contracts with him, ie. Foyle, Fisher, Murphy...without one of those guys included, you wont get Pietrus.

JR Smith would be a fan favourite after about 10 games, no doubt. Make it happy.

Barry is deemed ineffective somehwat because the Spurs already have an old 3pt shooting backup swingman, and he is better than Brent.

Bring Smith in and watch Tony not be alone on those fast breaks

Matt Bonner will be a fan favorite, too. We'll let both fairly useless players duke it out.

What we need are players to play hard and well, not fan favorites.

Any package from the Spurs that didn't involve the big 3 and netted Pietrus and Murphy would be a steal. I don't see it happening. Even if Murphy's contract is large he is still a double double machine that can stretch defenses.

    Gee, really?

Smith would be a fan favourite because of his play. Not a fan favourite because he is useless, like you are implying.

With the Spurs working out draft prospects, Pop is out of town?
    Pop hardly attends those things.

your acting like he attends EVERYTHING.

Theres a reason hes promoted guys like Budenholzer, Presti, Buford, and Demps.

They know how to evaluate talent, especially Presti and Buford.

    Chill.

I'd be stunned if he's worth more than useless. That's my point.

Bonner and Smith are career deep bench players. One because of his piss-poor at ude.

JR Smith, if people arent all over getting this guy, for a career scrub like Barry, is nuts...
How much have you seen of JR Smith?

He doesn't shoot well (sub 40 percent), can't rebound, doesn't pass, etc. I know he's a good athlete with some potential if he actually shows up to practice. But I don't get why Spurs fans have a collective hard-on for him. Barry isn't a career scrub. The Spurs might be able to get more than JR Smith for him (maybe, maybe not). But I just don't understand why Spurs fan are dying for Smith.

Everyone compares Smith to SJax's situation with NJ, but I don't think it's the same. SJ complained about playing time and whined/rolled his eyes about being at the end of the bench, but he didn't disrespect the coaching staff like JR has.

JR has refused to come to practice. Refused to come to meetings with the coaches. Shown up to practice with only 10 or 15 minutes left and not addressed the coaches or his teammates and just shot alone at the other end of the gym.

    SJax never behaved like that.
