Having watched Gibson play alomost every game he played in college, I don't really have much faith in him as a PG at the NBA level. Same as some earlier posters on this topic, he has difficulty handling the ball against pressure and his outside shot can get very streaky. Problem he had in college is that when the outside J wasn't working, he wouldn't change tactics much, would keep shooting instead of trying to drive and dish, create his own shot, etc. I definitely don't think he would be an adequate backup PG at the NBA level, probably better at the 2 spot, but then again he's undersized for that position as well. Spurs should look somewhere else.
Frankly, that the deal is being reported gives me pretty much absolute faith that it won't happen. It would be decidedly un-Spurslike.
In addition, from comments that Pop has made in the past, I can't really see the Spurs being all that interested in a low first rounder who has gone through the pimping process that is American youth basketball.

Gibson sucks. On top of that, he'd be a horrible fit on the Spurs. If you are looking for a UT player, I'd rather have PJ Tucker ... and that's not saying a whole lot.
Scola for the 25th pick would be okay but there's no way in I draft Gibson.

Gibson is . He will never make it in the league in my estimation. Streaky long ball and that is about it.

My best guess is that they are trying to get to at least 25. 1. They are targeting not Gibson but White and 2. The Lakers at #26 like White.
They would have to move in front of the Lakers to get White but at the same time not tip off the Lakers as to who they are looking at. Its all a high stakes game of poker.

White is the man at 25. That would be huge to get him. And much much better than drafting a shaky PG.
I would hold Scola until after next season if they cannot really get some good value for him. I think the Spurs will really need Scola after next season.

so does this mean that it still can happen since its not july yet and thats when the trading starts?
I know the original rumor was involving Scola but I thought he was good enough for a 1st round pick. Surely we wouldn't give him up for a 2nd rounder.
