PER is a crock of .

Murphy is a decent defender. Not great, but a of a lot better than Matt Bonner. He can defend the post (especially against big men who like the turnaround jumpshot, although he can bang with power players as well) and the perimeter, and he's tough. However, his weakside defense is nonexistent and he can be broken down off the dribble by more athletic big men.
I agree PER is not going to catch on and is stupid. But I can't stand big men who can't block shots whatsoever, also his quickness and help defense are non-existent. He is soft from what I've seen too and is one of the reasons GS is such a weak defensive team. At least he can rebound that helps on the defensive end. .

With his size he should be able to block shots, but has averaged 0.4 per game.

I like him and ordinarily would jump at this, but don't think the Spurs can afford 4 players with $10M+ contracts per season, with Duncan soon approaching $20M/year. This means you are put well over the cap with just 4/5 of a starting unit. The only way this F.O. takes on a contract this size, IMO, is getting rid of one of those other guys, obviously a bad idea.

Facts are facts, sadly, and the ugly fact of this one is his horrid contract.

Maybe Cuban wants him. He traded for Croshere when he already had KVH and Dirk maybe he's trying to corner the market on 6'10 and up white jump shooting power forwards (who can't play defense). He's off to great start.

Cuban seems a no-brainer. He wants to corner the market on J-shooting soft white guys he always wanted to be.

I've watched almost every Warrior game since Murphy has been there.

Murphy is a good fit IF:

    1) he changes his defensive habits...hard to do, but if there's one team that can change that, it's the Spurs.

    2) Spurs aren't looking for a conventional post-up 4/5. Murphy is a face-up shooter from 15 feet and back. He has no post-up game to speak of. But he's added 3-point range. His favorite spots are the top of the key and the elbows. That could complement Bowen's 3-point spots on the side quite nicely.

    3) Spurs are willing to take on his contract.

    That's a lot of if's.
