Refs help Argentina beat team USA???
FIBA would rather have 3rd world country in the final rather than team USA which would give them more $$$. that makes a lot of sense.... NOT
Conclusion= The refs are crap when we lose.![]()

no, refs=helped out argentina by fouling out Tim Duncan, you don't believe me, go look at the video, he was getting manhandled on the offensive side, but he coudn;t breathe on anybody.
With the talent out there, and under international rules, I don't see the USA rolling to an easy le again in the forseeable future.
Also I need to add that this is classless by Manu, I don't remember any of the US players guaranteeing victory when they rolled through the international teams, they're given one gold medal and he thinks they are some sort of basketball gods. I hope Bruce does us all a favor and undercuts him like he did in practice
I predict the US does not win and some of the resident morons in this board blame it on the refs.
In my opinion, he said the right thing. What do you want him to say? No, we are gonna lose it all! He is just installing confidence in the team and getting the players hyped. He said the right thing! To be the team, you gotta beat the team. As far as I am concerned, till they get beat, they have the right to say what they want. They earned that.
As for Argentina, of course they should be the favorite. They would have won in 2002 if Manu was not injured- and even then they only lost on controversial officiating against Serbia & Montenegro. They won the Olympics- after which- Pop told all the world that bringing in Scola would be the Spurs priority the next off-season (2005). Flash forward 2 years later and he still isn't here. People would not have clamored so for Scola if Pop had never said that. What I wonder is this- if Argentina wins and Scola has a great tournament- how will people feel about the Spurs FO then? What will the basketball experts say about why Scola is still in Europe and not in the NBA- when guys like Garbajosa and Parker got 3/$11-12M but the Spurs thought Scola was not worth 3/$9-10M.
As for Bowen, I think team defense is more important than indiviudal defense in these international events. Plus, Manu is "the stud" of these events. His reputation far surpasses Bruce's on the FIBA scene. Bruce will still be adjusting to the different rules, ...
Sorry Manu have to disagree with you on this one. Everyone knows that if the USA team from that competed the summer before in the championships would of competed the US would of gotten the easy gold.
Where did he say he "guarantees" anything? He said, "If I have to predict...". What's he supposed to say? "I don't expect us to win"? Plus, you have no idea in what context he said this. The reporter may have asked Manu to make a prediction, he simply responded.
As for classless, you hoping that Bruce resorts to cheap shots shows not much class on your part.
Hard to blame them for wanting to play for their country. I believe Dirk is playing for Germany. I'd rather him not, but what are you gonna do? At least Josh Howard is not playing for USA (turned down offer cuz it conflicted with his own summer camp for kids).
I think the US team will be better prepared to win because of their change in philosophy (not coaches...Brown, Pop and company can certainly coach!). They're building a better "team" this time instead of just throwing all the available stars together.
US has a better approach this time but its not like this team has practiced a lot, they are only just starting and they already have several losses on their roster, not considering those who declined initially.
Argentina has lost some depth to age, with no foreseeable replacements unless someone unexpectedly steps up (prigioni, delfino). Whats worse is that we lost our (really good) coach, and replaced him with a young guy.
As long as Manu, Nocioni, Scola, and Hermann show up, we should be able to beat anybody, especially since I dont see any dominant big on the US roster to worry about.
prediction is the key word genius
I dont know about u guys, but i think its time for the U.S. to take back the glory. The U.S. is too talented to be losing in the olympics. Half those guys on the Argentina national team only dream of being in the nba. Only Manu is actually a star in the NBA. The U.S. team conisists of only NBA stars, we have way more talent. I would like to see the players take it seriously this year, and the team be dedicated to playing defense. Also, we need more shooters so that other teams can't just clog the lane with a zone and stop penetration. If we do everything right we should definately win the gold.
Yeah, it would be nice but it's not like the teams from other countries don't know that we could spank them every time if it really mattered to us. The talent gap is narrowing but we're still way ahead of the rest of the world in hoops. Just like most of the rest of the world is ahead of the US in soccer (even though the gap is narrowing).
Did a Spurs fan just post that he hopes a Spurs player tries to hurt another Spurs player in an international compe ion? And all for being a confident leader of his team?
By the way, since Manu's almost won everything (other than WC) do ya'll think this will be his last international compe ion?
I wonder if Manu will try to block any shots in the waning seconds of regulation?
Maybe against Germany....
Argentina final roster:
Pepe Sánchez, Pablo Prigioni, Daniel Farabello, Emanuel Ginóbili, Carlos Delfino, Andrés Nocioni, Walter Herrmann, Fabricio Oberto, Luis Scola, Rubén Wolkowyski, Gabriel Fernández, Leonardo Gutiérrez, Hernán Jasen, Juan Gutiérrez y Paolo Quinteros.
Thats 15 players. Argentina final roster will consist of 12 players out of those 15.
Scola will kick ass! HE will show he is nba material
whoa Kobe begged off too
Argentina's chances is getting brighter everyday!
But I'd still root for team U.S.A.
