however, buffets are different.. the food is lower quality... i am talking about the same product at wal-mart vs target... if it is the same product, then you'd be a ing idiot not to get it at the cheaper place... assuming you were only in the market for 1 product...

That's a bunch of bull . If there were no minimum wage, with unemployment like it is, in' corporations would be paying 3 dollars an hour. You are so incredibly stupid if you think that minimum wages cause wages to stay low.
you must have never been in a management or ownership position. to keep good workers you pay them more. , even bill millers at places all over town start at $7 an hr... not 5.15.

also, i don't know why people think unskilled laborers should be making 40 grand a year for bagging ing groceries or doing other menial bull ..

Most of it's little more than pandering by insincere politicians, exploiting the poor in an effort to keep that voting bloc in their pocket.

We're as close to full employment as we've been in a decade or longer. Unless you're running a monopoly or are colluding with compe ors to fix costs, prices, and wages (all of which are illegal and rightfully so) you're going to pay wages that are compe ive and attractive to prospective employees or you're going to eventually go out of business because your employees are worth exactly what you pay them.

A minimum wage is a government-provided method for wage control that allows employers to maintain artificially low wages. A kind of benchmark from which all wages -- at entry-level or non-skilled jobs -- are gauged. If there was no minimum wage, instead of calculating wages up from that minimum, employers would actually do some math and figure out what a job was worth to them to be done well, not figure out how much above the minimum wage they're going to have to pay in order not to have to employ Napoleon Dynamite.

If youre working minimum wage and your not a moron or a summer job, second job, etc...

Well, i take that back, your ARE A MORON.

Its all about choices, there's jobs up the ass around here for 10-15 an hour unskilled. Take into mind theres a much lower cost of living its even more laughable.

$25 an hour to be a roughneck in western ND and they can't find enough people to pass the drug test otherwise they'd double the oil well's.

11 an hour to drive county truck's, no CDL requireed, day time job no overnight's or anything......

People are lazy, i know those jobs are harder than flipping burgers or stocking shelves in A.C. but don't about min. wages.

Minimum wage jobs are meant for high-school kids or people wanting a little extra money and are working a second job Or even a woman who's husband earns a good living, but she wants some extra spending money of her own. They are not meant for people who are trying to support a family and that is their only job.

Come to this country legally, and if you're a citizen, then stay in school and get an education - then you won't have to settle for the minimum wage jobs!

Given enough force, Chinese hand-cuffs will break, but that represents an excessive waste of energy.

Minimum-wage increases effect everyone. For instance, if your earning $8 per hour and the minimum wage goes from $5.15 to $6.25, then your $8 has to go up to $8.90 to match the increased purchasing power of bottom wage earners. All these people making more money are spending it, because they sure as aren't saving it, thus generating more tax-income for the government. If nobody has any money then they don't spend it, kinda like what's happening right now anyway with $3/gallon gas.

Sure, maybe everyone's wages will increase - but then, so will the cost of food, clothing, etc. Employers are not going to eat the additional cost of labor - it will simply be passed on to the consumer.

And again, a 16-year old who is bagging groceries shouldn't be earning $10 an hour!

Some costs are added, but not all of them. Retailers still must remain compe ive, so there is always reluctance, or at least a drag in businesses passing additional costs to consumers. Sometimes they take other routes like 'adjusting' the packaging, as in the case of breakfast cereal, where there is a tremendous profit margin.

and I don't know anyone bagging groceries for $10 per hour in S.A.

That's maybe the dumbest post I've ever read in here. It's an accomplishment; be proud.
