Leinart and Young both look like starting NFL quarterbacks to me. I wasn't sure either of them could do it, certainly not this early.

For a rookie, Roethlisberger showed tremendous poise. That's just something rookie QB's are not supposed to have. Cowher is no idiot. He must have saw something in this guy in training camp that nobody else saw. Tommy Maddux' injury in week 2 in '04 was a blessing in disguise. I don't think the Steelers team would have rallied around him like they did Ben.

In this case, his poise far outweighs the stats he put up.

This whole argument reminds me of the Terry Bradshaw-Archie Manning comparisons that were made way back when. Many believe that the Steelers would have been even better if Manning was a Steeler and Bradshaw would have been exposed as an overrated QB had he played for the woeful Saints. The problem here is that one would never know how that scenario would have played out.
i did not think ben was all that impressive though. did he manage the game well....i guess so.

    his rookie year:

    attempts per game: 21
    TDs: 17
    INTs: 11
    comp %: 66.4
    rushing TD: 1
    fumble lost: 1

few things stand out, his TDs are low b/c Pitts is a running team, his attempts are low b/c Pitts is a running team, his INTs are high as a ratio, and he had one rushing TD. >>>big freaking deal. the media got all over his nuts, and in turn fans, bought into (same old story of media molding opinion) just b/c the team was winning. well, he really had nothing to do with it. there are a pluthera of backup QBs in the league that could have done the same thing. , Charlie Batch has still been the most impressive steelers QB this year.

Leinart's line and team are not nearly as good, he is throwing the ball much much more, and when there is more chances taken there is the possibility of more mistakes. frankly, if Leinart continues his current play and improves some each week...the ben comparison is not even close.

and maybe the most helpful argument to Leinart's case...Warner was horrible in three straight games, he could not do anything. Leinart comes in, and the team is compe ive...save for the coaching mistakes.

    why? coz you feel inadequate?

  7. #57
Because a bad team crushed the average rookie QB

lol. yep, looks like Leinart had a bad game...for once. i did not see it, though, maybe he did not have time to throw? not to mention this game was after a monumental collapse.

maybe someone who saw the game can comment, i was out of town this weekend.

Sorry chief, you ruined your credibility when you stated that the Broncos wouldn't be able to beat a team like the Patriots when in reality, they had already beaten the Patriots.
Having an opinion and being wrong about your opinion is no big deal, it happens to everyone, "that's why they play the games", however, having an opinion when there is clear and direct evidence that you are wrong and the evidence is only 4 weeks old and proves you aren't keeping up with the very sports you claim to care about is a totally different thing.

So keep it up "sports guru". Or again, should I call you Chuck Parker?

Matt Leinart misses practice for birth of son
    By Darren Urban, Tribune

    October 25, 2006

Cardinals starting quarterback Matt Leinart was absent at practice Wednesday because of the birth of his son, named Cole, Tuesday night in California.

Leinart, who is coming off the worst of his three starts last Sunday in Oakland, is expected to return to Arizona this evening and be at practice Thursday.

The Cardinals travel to Green Bay this weekend and then have a bye weekend after that.

    ------

What the article fails to mention is that the Oakland Raiders have already sacked Matt's kid three times since his birth.

I thought Leinart was playing nookie with Paris Hilton or some such.

(No points for saying "who isn't?")

wow. i suppose he'll dedicate this next game to the birth of his son and throw for 300+ yards and 4 TDs.

    Congrats Matty!

lets not jump to conclusions. could be a) his girlfriend/fiance b) maybe a mistake

...either way gossip is unreliable, at best. and so is most of what the media reports.

What is there to dispute? It was some girl from the USC basketball team that he had been dating for awhile and she got pregnant and decided to keep the baby.

most yards ever thrown by a rookie QB in a game...405, albeit in a loss. i think Arizona has some great weapons, but you just can't win when your lines are sub par.

Imagine how sick and disgusting the Cards would be if Young was on that team and he had that type of talent. OMG that would be just sick! Young>>>>>>>>>>>pretty boy Leinart in NCAA and in NFL it isnt even close. Imagine how ty the ans would be if Leinart replaced Young. Talks of Jeff Fisher getting fired, and constant lottery seasons would be the outcome of that.

Can you imagine this stinky pussy entering the NFL and thinking how good he was because he has 400 pound simoan linemen protecting him in college?
"Oh, wait, you mean I'm not automatically en led to the most dominant offensive line in the league?"
