Thanks to those who shared their opinions. At this moment, I'm holding on to them, but I may change my mind later down the road, especially if I'm involved with someone else.

Dude, just do what GiG did. As he said, it is a win - win situation. You keep your ex happy, who knows, maybe in the future you guys meet up again, maybe your new school experience doesn't last long, who the knows, anything can happen.
What you need to do is make copies, destroy them in front of her, part on good terms, keep in touch with her. And if you never use the copies, don't want them anymore, trash them. Just view the copies as what they are: copies. If you ever feel regret, you can still destroy them and it would be as if you never lied to her in the first place by making copies.

you can always get a nice video card and rip them onto your computer. or if the video camera has usb or firewire, transfer them that way. you can even rar them up and put a password on them so no one else can access the files.

Dude, I am not going to tell you what to do one way or the other, as I think you have already made up your mind. However, this statement here that I quoted, I must reply to. As someone who has been in your situation before, I gotta tell you- don't count on it. The chances of you getting back together are a lot smaller than you think. 18 months is a seriously long time for two people to be apart and a whole lot that you can't see happening can indeed happen in that time frame. Just a caution from someone a little older, wiser and more experienced (in THIS subject, please don't use this as troll forum fodder as I am being sincere).
So in other words, don't use this as part of your excuse for keeping them. Keep them for the REAL reason you want to, and quit making excuses like this that won't hold water.

There is no "plan" to get back together with her. If it happens, it happens. I'm going out there as a single man and that will make life much easier for me. The original plan was to try and make a long distance relationship work when I left for ASU but that would have gone to quickly. How in the was I supposed to stay faithful for a year with all that ing tail walking around. That would have driven me nuts. And if I somehow did manage to stay faithful my ing would probably have fallen off from all the jacking off. I think things went sour at the right time for a reason.
