When it comes to Shaq- Rasho, Yes. Nazr, No. Last time the Spurs played Miami, Nazr got 5 fouls in less than 6 minutes.
Timmy only took three shots or something close to that.![]()

That and Miami missing 2 starters.![]()
seems like butler better start the next game to see him play with the other starters....looking at his stats these last few games he seems to having a good preseason so far....and it looks like it will be butler and orberto that are the new center tag team for us....elson seems like he's worthless
Center will probably continue to be by committee, depending on the matchups. Elson at least ran the floor and got some time with key rotation players. Bill Schoening mentioned in his PBP tonight that Elson is going to have to learn to be ready when Manu is on the court. The regulars have already learned to keep their hands ready in case the ball suddenly appears.
As Hubie would say...now we know that Butler can score. Of the three Bigs, he's the most offensively gifted. If he can move his feet and learn to play within the defensive system, Pop will feel more comfortable in putting him on the floor for some decent minutes.
I thought Butler was pretty darn good. Elson had a lot of fould trouble and Manu couldn't get his stuff together. There were a few technicals thrown in for whinning and a lot of boos for Shaq (granted). I could never tell if they were playing for real if it was preseason the whole time, but I'm a girl and not a pro at watching at the ATT&T Center. I was surprised that Bonner didn't play until very late in the fourth, I really wanted to see him play and Vaughn, in my opinion, only played like three minutes.
Spurs had 14 fouls from their 3 Centers. That's 5 for Butler, 5 for Oberto and 4 for Elson.
^^Well we WERE up against Shaq, who just tries to dunk it and either makes it or gets the foul.
Manu was out of sync all night. Tony missed one shot wide right by a few feet but overall played well (and hit all his FT's). Barry and Finley looked great and were looking to get involved in the offense often. Bruce looked particularly good in the first half. I liked that he was active on the boards because the smaller guys need to improve in that area. Duncan was just letting everyone else do there thing and not really involved offensively.
Elson looked better than he did against the Magic, but still didn't look great or anything. He had one great putback dunk on the break. He doesn't have the knowledge yet or the bulk he needs on D and is probably going to get into foul trouble everytime there's a center heavier than him (which will be often - he's light).
The Spurs specifically were letting Elson and Butler get run with the starters tonight to see how they perform. It is too hard to judge them when they are running with just the scrubs. I like Butler in that he loves to post up and he isn't afraid to mix it up down low. He looked good and Pop said he was glad to see him translate what he does in practice on to the court in a game. Fabricio's game was pretty uneventful, but his six boards in 19 minutes are good. I'd imagine he starts at the beginning of the season.
I thought we were going Eric Williams tonight and I was interested in that, but it didn't happen. Bonner looks pretty out of place every time I see him on the court. I'm not sure why he is so lost, but I'm sure he'll catch on. Lee/Smith/Sanders didn't do much except Smith had a great And 1 putback dunk.
Overall it was a good game. Both Payton and Elson got T'd up for complaining about calls that went against them. The whistles are really quick -- players are going to have to really watch themselves.
The team left for Houston right after. I don't think the starters are playing much tomorrow.
I think those were the two big things that stuck out for me. I have no idea how the new "no whinning" rule is going to work. I caught a couple of them, on both sides, bitting their tounges after those two calls. When Bonner came in I think I saw him move towards a three different spots before realizing where he needed to be. He still needs more time to adjust, imo.
E-Will definitely needs to play. I think he can will do great if he has a chance to fit in. Everyone is doubting him, but he WILL play great. He was averaging like 15 ppg in the Celtics when he had a big role, and since he didn't play as much as he did in Boston with New Jersey and especially Toronto his stats dropped drastically. If given another big role, I'm confident he can go back to his old ways. And now that Beno hasn't still played, I don't think he's gonna start the season on the active roster. Elson is gonna be this year's Oberto of last year. He'll be lucky if he's on the active roster too. Oberto was playing his game that everyone must agree isn't bad, and he's fighting for that starting spot with Butler while Elson is left behind seeing stars. When I first heard of the Spurs of the being after Butler, I was skeptical about him, but he has definitely shown he can ball and I wouldn't be surprised if he's the future center of the Spurs.I'm very surprised by the Spurs player fitting in so well, besides Beno and Elson whom I think the Spurs can win the championship without. In a nuts , I'm expecting le #4.

Well I'm guessing EWill will play tomorrow. Tim, Tony, Manu and Bruce didn't even go on the trip.
Parker post game: http://www.centralmediaserver.com/wo...heat102106.mp3
Sounds like Parker likes Jackie better than Francisco

Stop being a hater I loves Elson he remind me of Rashoooooo [/tpark]
tim manu toNY bruce don't play tomorrow? DON'T GO TO HOUSTON?
Yeah, they got the day off. They didn't go on the plane.
Over/Under... Spurs score 50 points?
Maybe we'll see a 20/10 game from Butler.![]()
Barry and Finley obviously did good.
What position(s) did Barry play?
I believe almost all his minutes were at shooting guard. In the 2nd quarter, when he did most of his damage, he was definitely at the 2. To start the quarter, he was along side Vaughn, then Parker came back midway.
tony's family was there yesterday? PIERRE OR HIS FATHER
I talked to Tony's dad the other night (he's been in Seattle this week watching Petro and Gelabale) and he said he'd be at the Miami game last night but I didn't see him. He might have been there though and maybe I just didn't see him.
his father live now in san antonio?
He goes back and forth between San Antonio and Chicago. He was here a lot in the beginning of the summer. He even played basketball with LJ (my husband) on his city league recreational team.
