I have to disagree that the Spurs picking up the option had anything to do with cap room in two years. At the option price, Beno is a bargin in the new permiter frendly NBA. No matter if the Spurs choose to develop him or eventually trade him, having him under contract for moves next summer ... or before was the only way to go.
I do agree with the props to Beno. As he demonstrated he wanted to remain a Spur when he delivered a solid game and thereby hurt his chances for an evenutally bigger FA pay day next season.
