I think my 3-year-old iPod has finally crapped out. Every time I try to transfer music from iTunes it freezes up unless I do it a few songs at a time (and even then it still freezes sometimes).
Does it making any weird clicking sounds?

Does it lock up when it's attached to your computer's USB port?

It hasn't made clicking sounds, but the iPod screen freezes when it's transferring songs from iTunes. I transfer over Firewire. I usually have to disconnect it and wait for the battery to die before I can plug it back in and use it.

I've had mine since June and i got about 5 gigs worth of music. I have everything from rap to classic rock and everything in between like a couple techno songs.

I don't see how i went through the first 16 years of my life without an ipod

Sounds like it could be a USB problem. It has to deal with the chipset of the laptop or PC you're connecting to.

Try another machine, with a known good chipset.

I don't use iTunes, never have like it since my 3rd gen ipod. I use Anapod Explorer. I have a 80gb ipod and have 8074 songs. I got just about everything except country and Spanish.

Yeah, download the program called Sharepod. It's freeware and works pretty well.
i would like to thank you for answering my question, even though it was 9 months ago and i completely forgot about it. i figured out its easiest for me to just create a folder of the music to put on my friends computer and store it on the harddrive part of the ipod. And i have 10.36GB of music on my 30 gig ipod.

I use my 80 gig video to catch up on tv shows as well. I had the shield seasons 1-5 on here but deleted them once I watched em all. I was thinking about doing the same with the sopranos but i havent "purchased" them yet lol
