    Bring on Jackie Butler.

    But this sucks for Bonner.
Agreed. Time to unleash the Butler Beast.

Hop into the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber as soon as possible......It cuts back the healing time anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2...I believe that's how Tim was able to return so quickly from the reoccuring sprains in 05.

Did someone knock into him or did he get pushed or what? They didn't show it on Sportscenter just now.
Caron Butler was driving and Manu took the charge. As Butler was falling, Bonner was on the other side of the lane and as the ball was loose, Matt was starting to jump. When he jumped, it looked like his left knee hit the leg of one of the Wizards. Butler fell at Bonner's feet when Matt landed but the injury appeared (to me) to happen as Matt was going up, not coming down. It may have been that the jumping motion was started and the contact on Matt's kneecap caused the tear in the ligament.

BTW, ACL tears occur frequently in basketball when a player jumps up, even without contact. Hopefully it's not that.

Well, Butler will more than likely be active now. I doubt he'll play much, but if the Spurs can blow some teams out maybe he'll see some on the court time.

"Someone fell into him while he was under the basket"

That's how Manu hurt Dirk in 03
and how Yao cracked his upper tibia recently.

I just watched the replay in super slo motion on the baseline replay and it definitely looked like Butler's hip/upper leg hit Bonner's knee just as Bonner was jumping up. The left leg appears to bend inward at the knee, so I'm fairly sure that's where the tear occurred.

He didn't hit anyone's head and he didn't collapse. He stayed on his feet.

If Bonner can make it back by March 1, he'll be fine. It just sucks because this was the perfect part of the season to see if he's a player who could help in the playoffs or not.

The silver lining is that the Spurs will get a chance to see if Horry has anything left in the tank. And perhaps Williams or Butler can step up and do something. It should also be easier to get Elson in there and playing whenever he decides to get back on the court.

Hopefully there is no additional damage shown in the MRI and he's able to make it back for SPAM.

A bad thing about this injury is it limits the Spurs' options on the trade deadline. Bonner has probably the most tradeable contract on the team. With him injured, the chances of landing Maggette became even less.

I pretty much agree with TimVP's take on Bonner coming back or not...with one additional caveat...if Bonner isn't out for the season I will be thoroughly amazed...MCL or not.

Six weeks takes us to March and then Bonner would have to get into game shape. He may not be out for the season, but this is a setback. Our frontline bench is shaky at best and we could lose some ground in the West. Lose a few games by a couple of points and you wind up down in eighth place.

So, what to do? Unlike some people, I don't see Butler as a replacement for Bonner. He can't do what Bonner did at all. Butler's strictly a center project and he can't play on the outside and spread the floor with his shooting. Similarly, putting him defensively on a forward is ludicrous.

So we're left with Horry and Williams at the wings--or possibly a call up of White. None of these guys is a PF. Horry can't and shouldn't be playing many minutes in my opinion. White is an athlete but without an outside shot and suspect defense. Williams will get some time but how much help will he bring? I hope he surprises all of us.

Let's hope Pop and the FO figure something out. Webber?

losing bonner is a serious blow...webber would be a decent fit because he's used to playing the high post from his days with vlade. i hope Pop has a decent contingency plan.

Webber may be close to making deal with Pistons. I didn't know Detroit was his hometown. See http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

Realistically, I don't think Webber sees us as one of his prime destination choices--even if our FO was to reassess the situation after Bonner's injury.
