Well, if it wasn't a big deal, I wouldn't think they'd make a press release out of it. It's a little like calling a press conference to announce that nothing's going on.

It's not that I hate the new uniforms; I couldn't - they're practically the same.
Well it's a press release because it's a thing they are doing around the league to show the support of the Latin players emerging in the NBA and marketing to those countries. It doesn't matter how much the uniforms have changed, that isn't the point.

The NBA releases tons of press releases for every little thing they do. That's how publicity works.

Perhaps if they would have left our emblem on. Maybe spurschick can fix this travesty.
True. Especially considering they have more players playing professional sports in the US than the rest of those 19 flags combined.

So what's the official tally in the NBA?

Off the top of my head.......

Argentina = 5 NBA Players (Manu, Oberto, Delfino, Nocioni, Hermann)
Mexico = 1 NBA Player (Najera)
Puerto Rico = 2 NBA Players (Arroyo, Ariza)
Dominican Republic = 1 Retired NBA Player (Lopez)
Brazil = 3 NBA Players (Nene, Barbosa, Varejao)

Not included (but Spanish speaking country nonetheless):
Spain = 5 NBA Players (Gasol, Garbajosa, Calderon, Rodriguez, Szczerbiak*)

I believe he was born in Spain.....

I placed an asterisk by his name since he hasn't officially played for the Spanish National Team.

Ariza has dual citizenship between US and DR - he was born in Miami. I believe he chose to play (or wanted to play) with the Dominican National Team though.

Villanueva suffers from Alopecia areata, an autoimmune skin disease. This results in hair loss on the scalp and/or elsewhere on the body, but the disease is not otherwise life-threatening or harmful. Villanueva has become a spokesman for the NAAF (National Alopecia Areata Foundation) to help others growing up with the same condition.[3] In March 2006, the NBA recognized his efforts by giving him the league's Community Assist Award for the month of February.[4]

He played there, so I'm guessing he applied for citizenship when he was there. A lot of the American players who go overseas do that.

Jax doesn't have any Dominican blood though. Ariza's mom was born in the DR.
