My top teams are all from Texas, but to say you HAVE to stick to a region is ridiculous. I used to live in Los Angeles, Seattle and Virginia, if I want to be a fan of any of those teams, I will be. It's stupid (particularly in San Antonio, with so many military families) to tell people to stick to a region.

Yanks will need outside help to catch Boston
    By Sean McAdam
It's mid-June, nearly at the season's halfway point, and suddenly the American League East, which not long ago billed itself as the toughest division in baseball, is anything but.

Sure, the Boston Red Sox have the game's best record (44-24) as well as the biggest lead (8½ games) of any first-place team in either league.

But what about the rest? Only the New York Yankees are above .500, and it took a torrid nine-game winning streak to get them there.

Is the race over? Is there anyone other than the Yankees positioned to give the Red Sox a possible run for their (considerable) money?

"I don't see it," said one baseball executive from outside the AL East. "The Yankees have a shot because of their lineup. But the Red Sox's starting pitching should keep them out of losing streaks. Of course, if they have injuries like last year, anything can happen. But I'd say they're pretty safe [in terms of taking the division] right now."
Can the Sox be caught? A look at the rest of the East and their chances:

NEW YORK: It was less than a month ago that the Yankees were 14½ games back, and they've nearly halved that deficit with their recent hot streak. Surely, if they can wipe out six games in three weeks' time, they can erase the rest in 3½ months, right?

Maybe. Their starting rotation has been stabilized, but it must now remain healthy. That's not a given considering the recent track records of Andy Pet te, Mike Mussina and Roger Clemens.

Then there's the matter of their setup relief, which still issues too many walks and is susceptible to overuse by Joe Torre. Bullpen help might be available in a month, but it won't be cheap.

A rejuvenated Bobby Abreu will help the offense, but the Yankees aren't getting enough from hobbled Johnny Damon or, for that matter, anything at all from DH-under-siege Jason Giambi.

Thanks to their age, the Yanks currently field a lineup with players over age 30 at every position except second base and center field. Avoiding injuries will be critical, especially with a thin bench.

The wild card looks eminently reachable if their pitching holds up, but reclaiming their birthright (another AL East le) will be harder. Only six head-to-head games remain with the Red Sox over the final 95 games, meaning they'll need some outside help.

The Yanks' ERA is too high for them to do anything long term. Their schedule has been easy compared to Boston's the last 3 wks and everything is cyclical in baseball.

    No worries.

what id like to know is how there are Spur fans on this site, then you have ones that are Yankee fans, Patriot fans, Colt fans, USC fans, Boston fans. why? stick to a region like a real fan.
my roots are in boston and i follow the red sox, patriots, and celtics. however, i also follow the spurs because of tim duncan. believe it or not, but i attended wake forest during the tim duncan era (i was a freshman when tim was a junior), and those home games were crazy. i was pretty much devastated when celtics got ed over by that '97 lottery. tim was suppose to be our savior, not san antonio's.

but since then i decided to follow both the spurs and the celtics, who once again gets ed over by the lottery.

maybe next year the celts get extremely lucky

Sox lose as Schill, again, sucks ass. Now only 7 up in loss column

In 15 starts, Curt has given up 5+ ERs five times
In 12 starts, Julian Tavarez has given up 5+ ERs once

I don't know whether to laugh, smile, or cry

    encouraging day for Coco Crisp
    4-4, 2 HRs, 2 singles, 2 RBIs

cant wait for june to end

I think that 9 inning game on his blown no hit bid took a lot out of the old geezer. Lester can not come back soon enough. Curt needs a rest.

My top teams are all from Texas, but to say you HAVE to stick to a region is ridiculous. I used to live in Los Angeles, Seattle and Virginia, if I want to be a fan of any of those teams, I will be. It's stupid (particularly in San Antonio, with so many military families) to tell people to stick to a region.
i moved thirteen times as a kid since my dad was in the Vietnam War and changed stations frequently

    Mineral Wells, TX
    Auburn, AL
    Monterey, CA
    Honolulu
    Seattle, WA
    Washington DC
    Joplin, MO
    Billings, MT
    Selma, AL
    Ocala, FL
    Traverse City, MI
    Killeen, TX
    Corpus Christi, TX
    Dallas, TX

my point is that you should either stick to one team that you like, or just root for the team that is in your region. the college you graduated from is an exception. i just cant root for two teams in the same sport, it makes it no fun. its not hard to stick to just one team even if you have lived all over the place

lol, you think the Celtics and Red Sox are good teams to bandwagon with? The Celtics haven't been good in ages, but I like them for this reason: I believe that they play as a team. They may not have players that are great and will end up in the HOF some day, but they are learning everyday. Sure they have showboats like Tony Allen and Gerald Green, but these showboats also know how to pass the ball. Similarly, the Red Sox almost always find a way to break your heart. Curses, untimely injuries, second-half season breakdowns and other recurrences really test a fan's loyalty. But you know what? I've never liked football, so I've never liked the Patriots even if they do win a lot. I've never pretended to either; I think I know 2 players on that team, Tom Brady and Teddy Brueschi if he's still on it.

lol, you think the Celtics and Red Sox are good teams to bandwagon with?
I dont think liking the Celtics and Red sox are bandwagon people.

    I never said that.

And Yanks got swept by Colorado

Even though we are in a slump we have gained 3 games in 3 weeks.
    A game a week.
But we really need to sweep the O's

and Naw V2.. I put the ^^^ at people who like the Cowboys,Lakers, and yankees or whatever.
    Thats a bandwagon fan.

Liking all Boston teams is far from bandwagoning.

Yankees are still 11 1/2 back of Boston and 8 games back in wild card at the mid way point of the season. I am thinking that they have no legit shot at making the post season.

Old, old news. They've been out of it for a while. There are too many good teams in the A.L. that arn't all of a sudden going to roll over and die.

    Yankees will win the division.

The Red Sox can't keep up the pace they have set.

Yankees will acquire another arm at the trading deadline.

    another predictable season.

Of course the Yankees will stiff in the playoffs to the Angels, and itll be Detroit and Anaheim for the ALCS
    thank you...

Sweeping the Indians proves nothing. Even the Rangers took 2/3 from them and damn near swept them. They are not playing very well lately.

And don't give me the line about "sorry I haven't been online much lately." This is a pattern with you, you ONLY come by when the Yanks are getting close to the Sox. When they were about five out you came here, and then when they were 10 out again within a week you were nowhere to be found.

It's not so much that the Yankees are winning, it's that they are destroying teams. They actually have a better run differential than the Reds Sox now, by 40 runs.

If you look at the pythagorean expected W/L - the Yankees should have a 2 game lead on the Sox already.

That said, I agree that they are going to get knocked out, probably early, in the playoffs.
