You'd have to ask Baron Davis that.
Did he guard B-Diddy? Is it his fault Davis had the series of his life? Why do people keep piling on Dirk? He played crappy, we lost. Avery coached a crappy series. Terry couldn't make a shot to save his life or keep Davis in front of him. When he wasn't in foul trouble, Devin couldn't keep Davis in front of him. We lost that series as a team. Dirk came up short, but I'm not gonna make sweeping judgments about a guy that is 5-0 in series-deciding games, has led a team to the Finals and is one of the top 5 players in the League. I take a guy's entire body of work into account, not just the moments he's come up short.

Did he guard Sabonis? Is it his fault Rasheed Wallace had the series of his life? Why do people keep piling on Karl Malone? He played crappy, we lost. Sloan coached a crappy series. Hornacek couldn't make a shot to save his life or keep Damon Stoudamire in front of him. When he wasn't in foul trouble, Stockton couldn't keep Stoudamire in front of him. So Karl Malone was a scrub? It's some sort of insult to compare Dirk to Malone? Malone and Stockton were like a lot of guys, shut out of a le because of MJ. They were a championship-caliber team.

Well I guess if our aspirations are to become one of the greatest teams to never win a le, the Malone comparison is flattering. The Jazz had plenty of non-Jordan years where they had great opportunities at winning a le and they choked them away.

I just want this team to win one. I'd love to believe that Dirk is capable of leading a team to a le, but right now he's only shown flashes of that leadership, not a consistency with it.

More than any other player or coach on the roster, we have a rich owner committed to winning and as passionate as any diehard Reunion Rowdie. Most owners are content to just turn a profit. I don't have any doubt Cuban is going to hoist the trophy one day. Whether it's with Dirk as the centerpiece, I don't know, but this team is a lot closer to a le than it was in 2000.

Who do you have in front of him?

By my count, Duncan, Kobe, Wade, > Dirk.

    18. same with D-Rob
    19. Popovich in a throwback
    20. Hurricane Popovich

    29. Alvin Robertson

After this, there's room for debate as to whether Lebron or Kobe or Nash, etc, makes the list. Dirk is maybe a top 50.

The only guys in the league I would take over Dirk would be Tim, Bron, Wade, Kobe, and maybe Nash, although I would probably put Dirk ahead of him due to the age factor. Close right behind him Yao

    If I'm a GM, I take Bron. If I'm a coach, I take Dirk.

Questionable shot selection, overdribbling on the perimeter, iffy free throw shooter, coasts too much. Getting to the Finals out of THAT Eastern Conference is not that impressive to me.

The ft shooting for sure, but I think those other things can be attributed to ty teamates that stand around and dont move, and them not having a primary ball handler that can set people up. He is much more of a leader than Dirk, is 6 years younger, and might be even more of a matchup problem than Dirk. I think most coaches would take Bron over Dirk in a heartbeat, , the Mavs would do that trade in a heartbeat

Those guys are all fluke players on a fluke dynasty. They just won the championships they were supposed to win. They didn't do anything special. Here's the guys that could all take Duncan to school:

    1) Dirk
    2) J-Ho
    3) Terry
    4) Stack
    5) Harris
    6) Damp
    7) Diop
    8) Buckner
    9) George
    10) Croshere
    11) Barea
    12) Ager
    13) Willis
    14) Mensa-Bonsu
    15) Shawn Bradley could always be brought out of retirement
    16) Same for Eschmeyer
    17) Brad Davis, not only a smooth baritone on the Mavs' radio broadcast, but he is easily > Parker or Manu
    18) Roy Tarpley's rolled up dollar bills
    19) What's Sam Perkins doing these days?
    20) Roy Tarpley's sponsor
    21) Dirk if you shrunk him to 5 inches tall
    22) Let's go break Motta out of the nursing home
    23) Bob Ortegel - Not only he is a devil with the ladies, with a rare, sensual sexual energy that can't be contained, but he could easily beat up Bill Schoening and Dave Barnett at the same time with both hands tied behind his back in a fight:

    24) Walter Bond
    25) Terry Davis
    26) James Donaldson, aka GOAT...I laugh at the comical thought of Duncan trying to post him up, or futilely giving way while Donaldson rains dunk after dunk over Timmy.
    27) Herb Williams
    28) Laura Miller
    29) Humble Billy Hayes
    30) The Manager of the Banana Republic in West Village.

Elton Brand and Kobe on the same team? I don't want to see that. Kobe should have signed there when he had the chance -- it instantly would've given the Clippers a shot at being on equal footing with the Lake Show in southern California.

Finley and Nash weren't leaders? Dirk's not a leader?

So Dallas is the only team in NBA History to ever give up a lead?
