He can't get 10% raises from the Grizzlies. It's 8% max, right?

True. I ran it with 10% as in that would be what the Spurs would have to come up with in a S&T.

I don't see that as an outrageous offer. If a one-dimensional spot up shooter is worth $24M in Kapono, then Nocioni is easily worth $46M. Probably more if you base it on Kapono logic.

Exactly. The agreements so far this summer seem to imply a league-wide assumption that league revenues will be seeing a healthy e in the short term. Also, a $7.5 mil starting salary will likely be less than $2 mil over the MLE. I think Nocioni is roughly that much better than the average player (if you assume the average salary is an accurate reflection of the worth of the average player).

The Spurs must have Nocioni. Period. This crap they've been signing or resigning is pure dog in terms of the scoreboard. And actually that's all that matters... Bonner didn't have any scoreboard in the playoffs and he's to slow and stupid to be a Robert Horry, he couldn't block . Also, he plays like a chicken .

holy smokes. hes making as much as manu while performing at half the level.

Price and value are subjective to the purchaser. The Griz are showing how much they need someone like Nocioni. Since Manu is not available to them, they have to take their best alternative.

$7.5 mil with 10% annual raise off 1st year salary.

Good to see Spurs fans dogging a player they wanted when it appears the team won't land him (though I'm not so sure why so many believe the Spurs are out of the running).
I thnk Kori's correct on the raise percentage for signing with another team. The last CBA trimmed both raises and years. I believe it's 6yrs/10% with your team or 5 years/8% with someone else.

no way, no how. He's a GOOD player, let's not go crazy....which is what Memphis did. How desperate and irresponsible is that ? Pau and Noc are supposed to deliver a le ? Not gonna happen.

    I believe its 8% vs. 10.5% raises.

Plus I still can't figure out why the Bulls would do this?

They would have to eat $6-$7 mill in scrubs to earn the right to spend 2/3's of the MLE to bring Scola over? So basically Scola would cost them approx $10.5 to probably put up worse numbers than Nocioni probably would in their system? Guys like Barry, Butler, Udrih would NEVER play for the Bulls. From what I've read they think Sefolosha is going to play 25+mpg next year. And they already have 3 starters at PG/SG/SF that will all play 35-39 mpg. They are trying to dump their scrubs not add more.

Plus I doubt the Spurs are going to add him at $40+ million anyway.

So unless it's some kind of 3-way trade where the scrubs go to a third team a talented but long term salaried player (salary dump basically) + scola's rights go the bulls and Nocioni goes the Spurs I don't see how this works.

Yeah so they pay Brent Barry $5 mil for one season and have Scola for 3 years at $10 mil. Not bad.

For the same money they could just keep Nocioni and probably have Joe Smith to replace PJ Brown. Assuming Noc is healthy next year they are already much better than last years team. There is no risk as opposed to having Barry die on IR and hoping Scola can play at least as well as Nocioni (doubtful). If the Spurs really thought he could play he would've been here a long time ago. The point being the Bulls arre just as risk averse as the Spurs are.

they are like $8 mill under the cap. I don't think they care. They said they wanted to resign him all along. So the expect to pay around $40 mill. They could resign Nocioni, Deng and Gordon (I'm not sure they want to since it seems like he's been on the trade block forever) and still be below the lux tax in 09. Remember the Spurs can't sign him to an offer sheet there is no hammer to hold over their heads like Memphis has. The Spurs would have to blow them away. There would have to be a reason to trade him away like the contract is to expensive etc.

The point being next season they could have Nocioni and a guy like Smith to play a combined 45 mpg or risk one of their more productive players (lead them in ppg in the playoffs against the heat in 06 - like 22ppg) on a maybe guy in Scola who maybe plays 25mpg if everything works out.

Absolutely. When we signed Frankie and Jackie and that was it, people all over the place were slitting their wrists...

Change is not always for the better. We have the best TEAM in the NBA from 1-10, our guys work beautifully together without ego, and as long as the big 4 remain healthy we can go all the way again.

Pity we missed out on Nocioni, but it's not the end of the world.

Different positions. Bulls are stacked at Nocioni's position so paying him 46 million to play limited minutes is ridiculous. Scola's style of play is desperately needed and would therefore be more important to them.

Paul Gasol, Nocioni and Mike Conley Jr.

Nice =) but a lot depends if Gasol can stay healthy, if so, they will be a tough team.

Don't know if this is already somewhere...

The longer the Grizzlies wait, however, the more attractive a Bulls offer that already is on the table could become. A source said the Bulls' five-year offer starts near $6.3 million to $6.4 million for the first season.

Factoring in a 10.5 percent increase of the first season's salary annually, the total package sits at approximately $38.1 million to $38.7 million. The Bulls could increase that offer and also would have seven days to match any offer sheet Nocioni signed with Memphis...

General manager John Paxson has vowed to match any offers for his hyperactive forward. Per the collective bargaining agreement, the Bulls are allowed to offer Nocioni a six-year contract...

And Paxson has vowed not to lose Nocioni for nothing. There are no indications the Grizzlies will make Gasol available.

Why not EARL BOYKINS....I believe he's a free agent this year. We could do w/o Nocioni if we were able to pick up Boykins and drop Beano.
