Been a spurs fan for 10 years and basketball fan/player all my life. The spurs have been my definition for a team for some time now.

Anyhow, on this topic. Have you guys played defensive basketball before? and I don’t mean making that one big block that would send everyone screaming. I’m talking about shutting your opponent down completely. It takes discipline, awareness and experience and most importantly team work.

Some people in this forum believe a younger wing would be a better solution than Udoka. Bringing in a younger punk would mean holding his hand. Teaching him a system that would likely sink in after 2 seasons. Not really a good idea if you are looking for a repeat which I believe the spurs FO/fans are looking for.

It is already stated that Udoka is an excellent defender (due to his maturity; yes older players usually are better defenders). “But his not as good bowen” this is bull . In my books Bowen should have won “defensive player of the year”, but don’t think less of Udoka. Good defenders are made better in defensive team cause you have faith in teammates to back you up on D thus when forcing your opponents on their weakside and into your bigs, you know your big men are gonna send that prick flying.

With the addition Udoka there is a higher probability that he adopts the spurs system quickly. And his maturity and work ethics means he will less likely disrupt the team from the inside.

Isn’t it also stated that his a 3 point threat and a decent free throw shooter? If so you whiners sure are picky.

Here’s hoping for a repeat and thanx SPURSTALK for keeping the world updated.

    Cheers!!!

    Well said, and welcome!

Can we sign this guy already and get it over with?

I bet we don't sign anyone though unless it's an S&T for Beno or Barry (neither makes any sense for Portland, unfortunately), because of the lux tax...

Don't see how accurate this in, but it's out there. With Spanoulis, the Spurs are about $1M over the luxury tax IIRC. Even dumping him does not seem to make this possible. I also assume he means luxury tax and not salary cap.

The Spurs are negotiating with Trail Blazers free agent Ime Udoka on a low-paying contract that would keep San Antonio below the projected salary-cap threshold for next season.
