This sort of thing has always happened...you just hear about it more now because we have better media. Back in the old days these kids probably wouldn't have even gotten into this much legal trouble over it either...the police probably would have said, "it's just a dog, what do you want us to do, put the kids in jail?" or something to that effect.

Chalk me up as one of the people that thinks that someone capable of this kind of cruelty towards an animal is also capable of it towards humans as well though.

In school when I was a kid there was this kid that strangled a puppy by holding it under water...no reason for it, he just wanted to see it die. Supposedly he did it without showing any kind of remorse or guilt. He was the weird kid in school that no one really liked...Years later it was found out he was molesting his younger sister(she was 7-10, he was like 18 or something).

Yep. When I was in junior high school, everyone had to do a science fair project and one guy dissected his cat, separated the organs in baggies, and laid them out in front of a poster with the words "Dissection of A Cat" scribbled on it.

At the time all the boys thought i"cool" and all the girls stayed away. I don't recall the teacher reaction. It wasn't until about 10 years later, when you thought about this for the first time since then, that the light went on and you think "WTF" and realize what that guy was.

Saw these on the news tonight and it makes me sad to know that someone can be so very cruel to a animal. The cruelty in the world today towards man and animal is just so sickening.
