Have you ever said anything positive about this team/organization?
I'm sorry, I don't want to sound rude.
But I don't remember ever reading a post of yours that was positive about anything.
When we swept the Cavs, you ed about Parker getting MVP.

I think you are a fan, not a troll.
But damn, just once could you smile about anything regarding the Spurs?
In fairness, I think it's the first time he's ed about something not Scola-related in ages.

I have images of Bruce being valuable into his early 40's. 10mpg off the bench, full defensive intensity for those 10mpg, not having to worry about foul trouble. That'd be for opposition.

As for the contract, thats good for both sides. I would be fine with the Spurs paying Bruce $10M a year after all his efforts over the years

Good news. Bowen's still close to the top of his game and the amount committed shouldn't cause any problems going forward. With Udoka joining the team, Bowen's regular season minutes should drop a little with an eye towards keeping him fresh for the postseason, as well as developing Udoka's defensive skill. Plus you are assured of having Bowen and Udoka together for the next 2 to 3 seasons, which may turn out to be a key for the team's future championship prospects.

As for youth, it's coming down the pike. But tell me, did you prefer a 20-something Rasho Nesterovic replacing 57 year old David Robinson back in '03?

Bowen is the last old guy I would want to get rid of.

What young guy is going to do what he does as well as he does it?
    I'll start off with...NOBODY!

To BRUCE! Good news for the Spurs!

This is good news for the rest of the league. Bowen sucks ass and a 40 year-old Bowen will only suck ass of epic proportions. Way to tie your salary up in no-skilled defender that can only hit corner jumpers occasionally!

As opposed to trading for a player you will pay 30 million dollars to release

Good for Bruce. For all he does he deserves that and more. I don't think the Spurs have four championships without him.

    Spurs Sign Bowen To Extension

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have signed Bruce Bowen to a contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Bowen, a 6-7 swingman, is entering his seventh season with the Spurs. Last year he was named to the All-Defensive First Team for the fourth consecutive year and finished second in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year. Bowen has earned a spot on the NBA’s All-Defensive Team in each of the last seven seasons (First Team 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007; Second Team – 2001, 2002, 2003) joining Tim Duncan and Jason Kidd as the only players in the NBA with that distinction. He is also one of just six swingmen in NBA history who have earned All-Defensive Team honors in seven-or-more straight seasons: Scottie Pippen (10 straight from 1991-00), Bobby Jones (nine straight from 1977-85), John Havlicek (eight straight from 1969-76), Michael Cooper (eight straight from 1981-88) and Walt Frazier (seven straight from 1969-75).

Last year Bowen was the only Spur to play in all 82 games and enters this season with a streak of 436 consecutive games played – and started – which is the longest active streak in the NBA and a Spurs franchise record. He is the Spurs all-time playoff leader in three-pointers made with 134 and ranks second on the Spurs all-time regular season list in three-pointers made with 529. Bowen’s .439 (134-305) shooting percentage from three-point range during the playoffs is second on the Spurs all-time playoff list and his .401 (529-1,319) mark from downtown in the regular season ranks fifth among Spurs all-time leaders.

For his career, Bowen has played 11 NBA seasons for four different teams, including the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. He has appeared in 712 regular season games, averaging 6.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 28.2 minutes per game. Bowen has seen action in 113 playoff games, averaging 6.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 31.4 minutes in the postseason. He is also a two-time winner of the NBA’s Community Assist Award.

I had to go back and check the year he got signed by the Spurs. I couldnt believe that he's going on seven years in SA. , I could barely buy alcohol when we got him. Time flies when you are winning championships.

thus continuing the NBA tradition of paying players for what they did rather than what they will do.

Bowen is 36, unless the extension is for less than 2 mill a year, that is money not wisely spent.

My Amazing Journey -- Bruce Bowen

Getting to the NBA is not easy. Of the millions of kids playing basketball around the world today, only a small percentage will make it to the Association. Along the way, there will be highs and lows, ups and downs. As they prepare for the 2007-08 season, 30 current players reflect back on their journey to the NBA and some of the things they went through to fulfill their dream of playing basketball for a living.

This is such a good news. Bruce is a huge asset to the Spurs. He's the best perimeter defender, no doubt about it. And the finals proved that...

So that's two years, with the second not guaranteed...Only four million per year.

I really respect Bruce for always willing to take the lower payment...for the better of the team.
