Actually, no. I've been to SA a number of times, once for over a month, and I really like the place, well, the North-West anyway - friendly people, easy to get around, has everything I need. That said, I've also been to Austin and would happily live there.
But dissing SA on the basis of statistics misses the point that it's a pretty friendly and entirely liveable place. The ease with which I met and befriended people, and the generosity they showed towards me, impressed me a great deal, and much of it was unrelated to the Spurs.

BTW, I've lived in Austin for ten years and......it aint all that.
SA is growing because companies around the world are discovering how dirt cheap it is to conduct business here. People are moving here because they too are discovering how dirt cheap it is to live here.
Eventually, SA will catch up with everywhere else and it will just be a tourist infected city, plagued by an eyesore of a downtown and the highest teen pregnancy rate in the United States.

I have lived here in San Antonio all my life and I don't think SA's downtown area is all that. Other than that, the rest of the city isn't that bad. I've seen worse. Its not fair to call San Antonio the 4th ugliest. I am sure there are a lot more uglier major cities out there.
