It's a pretty good situation for Noel. The only other true big man worth a crap on the team is Bryson McKenzie, and Noel is better than he is. Even if they get an NBA send-down that takes up 35 mpg, Noel should still get a good deal of burn.

Steven Smith could be a little more the kind of player the Spurs could be looking for in a long small forward, so we might keep an eye on him as well.

Magic Assign Marcin Gortat To Anaheim Arsenal

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have assigned forward Marcin Gortat (MAR-chin GOR-tat) to the Anaheim Arsenal of the NBA Development League, General Manager Otis Smith announced today. Gortat will continue to be included on the Magic’s roster and will remain on the team’s Inactive List.

Gortat has not appeared in a game this season. He has been on the Inactive List a total of 11 times and has registered one DNP-CD. Gortat was selected in the second round (57th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. His rights were acquired by Orlando on draft night (June 28, 2005) in exchange for cash considerations.

Gortat played in all five games with the Magic during the 2007 Pepsi Pro Summer League, averaging 10.0 ppg., 6.8 rpg., 2.6 apg. and 3.20 blkpg. in 30.8 minpg. He has participated with Orlando’s summer league team the last three years.

Gortat (6’11”, 240, 2/17/84) has spent the last three seasons (2004-07) with RheinEnergie Koln in Germany’s Bundesliga I league. Last season, he averaged 10.4 ppg., 5.6 rpg. and 1.1 blkpg., while shooting .596 from the floor in 14 games of Euroleague action. He also played in 44 games in the German League, averaging 8.9 ppg., 6.2 rpg. and 1.4 blkpg., while shooting .575 from the field. Gortat was selected to the Polish National Under-22 team after having played basketball for only six months. During the summer of 2004, he was invited to play for the Polish National Team.

Shouldn't be an issue for Noel. He can plat wherever Gortat doesn't. The best lineup for them including Gortat will be Gortat/Felix/Smith/White/Diaz. Smith and Noel's respective talent and versatility will get them minutes in pretty much any situation this season.

Looks like Noel is leaving the D-League to take Marcus Slaughter's place on Hapoel Jerusalem.

He left L.A. day before yesterday. They gave him $25K a month for the rest of the season and he'll start in Slaughter's place.

The whole Slaughter controversy over the hooker is kind of funny.

Damn. I wish I was 8 inches taller, and had talent!

Good for him. Hopefully his next stop will be back on an NBA bench.

Nice! Didn't he become a father sometime in the recent past? I am sure that kind of cash is going to come in real handy.

25K A MONTH??? Remind me again why we're supposed to feel sorry that he was cut from the NBA

More seriously.... are the spurs still keeping tabs on him? I remember there was once a discussion about how he could one day become the 'long 3'?

Felix has only to look at a couple of Spurs, --AJ and Bowen were guys on the bubble of NBA talent for years-- both of whom will wind up with their jerseys in the rafters, for role models on how to persevere with his dream of an NBA career.
