I think he looked nice.
Who jamstone???
I think he looked nice.
why the long nails?
Defense.
You can see Duncan scratched up after lots of games, especially in the playoffs when things get even more physical.
I assume he can scratch as well as get scratched.
really? Seems to me it would be more comfortable handling the ball with no nails.
I would think so too.
But his nails have always been long. Longer than just nice nails would be.
There's got to be a reason.
I'm basing it on my observations of how scratched his arms get after physical games: my guess is defense.
If he's getting that beat up underneath, the guys he's defending must be too.
Um, why aren't the refs checking player's nails if scratching is a problem? , I've played in amateur leagues where they won't let you on the court with long nails.
My guess would be he feels like it gives him an extra couple centimeters when trying to block a shot.
Chuck Person used to grow out just the nail on his left thumb. He'd grow it out about an inch and he said it helped him put more rotation on his jumper.
Good question.
I have no idea.
And my take is only my observations. I've got no proof, no quotes.
But if you go back and look at pics from any playoff series, check out Duncan's arms. You'll see the scratches. The Seattle series in '05 is one of the best examples.
I don't know why else would his nails be that long.
Anyone else have any ideas?
That makes sense.
I wonder if it would hurt if the nail got bent hitting the ball. Ouch!
I thought the same thing. They must have shown at least 5 clips of Duncan clapping last night and I laughed every time....it looks funky like he has a 6th finger on one of his hands or something!
Just fits in with the rest of his personality. Tim isn't a showboater whether on the court or sitting in street clothes. But I do like the way he rubs the guys heads after they come off the court with yet another victory.
i would love to have tim duncan to clap his big hands on your ears. that oughto shut you up.

Remember the Finals last year when Tim had Lebron chew his nails for him ? That was special.
Yeah, those long nails surprised me as well. One off the things that can really piss a player off, is being scratched by someone elses long nails. "Trim your damn nails"...I've said it more than once myself...had it said to me a couple of times too.
At the Pro level tho...mebbe it's just another offensive/defensive weapon used. Is there a nail war going on under the radar?
Enquiring minds...
what the , are you being serious?? gross, these guys need to cut their nails, or someone tell lebron about this little trick because he can't stop knawing on his nails during games.
I had one of my nails completely ripped off with a full-speed spining basketball. Yes, it hurts. I guess Tim uses his nails like that in order to improve his jumper. But it's freaking dangerous. I know!
He looks like he has severe arthritis.
I believe this is the coat I once saw Pop showing off as the "team coat". The other one could be from Tim's personal "wardrobe". This clapping stuff is too funny!![]()
True. Most people don't realize Nosferatu was a acious defender in the paint.

You want him clap then you will want him laugh .... we know what your point is you Spurs hater !
Remember when the rules first changed and Tim wore Tony's coat in a post game interview? We don't want to see that on the sidelines again.
As for the nails, Duncan has always had long nails as far as I know.
how can nails improve a jumper?? it would bother him if anything.
Maybe he has long nails because he likes it that way but com'on, cut that out.
In amateur ball they check your finger nails before you take court and I think they should do it in the NBA also. You can injure a player and maybe transfer some blood diseases.
