Get off it. He wasn't trying to hit him in the face. He was trying to anticipate where the ball was going to be.
I don't think he meant to injure TJ the way he did.
But I will be praying for the guy. Seeing him in tears almost brought me to tears.
Get off it. He wasn't trying to hit him in the face. He was trying to anticipate where the ball was going to be.
I knew that. Sorry. Same region.
Neither do I. That is what I said. The foul was intentional, but the injury was not. Intentionally hurting him would make it dirty.
So it was worthy of a careless 2. Where's that in the rulebook? He was going for the ball, so it's by definition not flagrant. I bet that he got ejected for the contact above the shoulders, not for the foul.
Thank you for making my point. The fact that it was ruled flagrant means he was NOT going for the ball. I will trust the refs take on the situation and their ruling over anyone on here.
Well. The rest of us won't.
ehhhhh I like TJ more than any of you and even I realize this was unintentional
I suppose you know more than the three NBA refs standing right there. Must be nice. Good night.
The refs also ruled it a flagrant when Joe Johnson broke his eye socket. The league rescinded it. Like that foul, the fact that the one tonight was ruled flagrant just means it's a bad call.
So you think refs don't make mistakes? And are never swayed to upgrade a foul because of an injury?
interesting.....
Man, that Joe Johnson was crazy. Hopefully TJ makes just as good a recovery.
Ploto- I'm done arguing too. Think whatever you want. I think we can ALL agree though that wishes for his recovery are in order.
Since I recently got into a discussion about flagrants, thought I'd chime in. An official determining a foul was flagrant does not mean that foul was intentional. An official can deem a foul flagrant if there is excessive contact. That speaks nothing of the intentions of the player committing the flagrant foul.
Horford didn't mean to do that to him, it was just a fluke play. I think it was BS that Sam Mitc wanted to go at Al after it happened. I mean guys are tangled up all the time, how is he supposed to know he is gonna fall and hit his head. I hope Ford has a full recovery, but acting like someone ment to do that is dumb
Well... I don't really blame Mitc for reacting within a ceryain time frame. It's not like he really had time to think about it critically. I'm sure once he see's the tape, or even in the moments after he had time to reflect on it, that he'll wish or was wishing that he didn't get so hot. Hopefully.
My uncle used to fly the team plane for the T-wolves and he said that Sam was one of the nicest guys he'd met. In the heat of the moment can get intense sometimes. I'm sure it won't stay that way though.
good ing god. this is ing horrible. kid can't catch a break. kinda sours my mood. TJ is a tough and really talented guy. get well, man.
Horford’s a class act! http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared..._clas.html

The Atlanta Journal-Cons ution
If I’ve learned nothing else about Al Horford the past six months, it’s that he’s a class act. That was clear the first day I met him and it was never more clear than last night, after his hard fouls sent Toronto point guard T.J. Ford crashing to the floor late in the Hawks’ loss to the Raptors at Philips Arena.
I’ll be the first person to sound off in defense of this guy, because long before everyone else had vacated the premises Tuesday night, Horford made his way to Piedmont Hospital to check on Ford, who remained under observation overnight but reportedly had movement in all of his extremities.
Horford was one of several people affiliated with the Hawks to go directly to the hospital to check on Ford - Dominique Wilkins and Josh Smith’s father Pete Smith were there, too - and make sure he knew that what happened was purely accidental.
Horford, I’m told, waited quite a while for Ford to get done with tests just to make sure he got the chance to speak with him personally. And when told that Horford came to check on him and wanted to speak with him, Ford let it be known that he knew Horford’s lick wasn’t intentional and that he welcomed Horford to stop by and visit.
TJ Ford is probably one of the nicest players in the NBA. I have met him a couple times and the guy is extremely nice. I feel for him and hope everything turns out ok for him. If his career is to remain largely unaffected, more the better, but my primary concern (considering his history) is his overall health. God speed TJ.
Definately not a dirty play, just unfortunate
Jesus. I was in a bar where they showed the replay 7 billion times. It was definitely tough to watch. Get well, TJ.
That sucks. It was obviously unintentional. Horford was just fooled on the play. A flagrant can be called even if the play is unintentional on a hit above the shoulder. Heck, Kobe got suspended for an unintentional hit above the shoulders. Plus with the game over, you get Horford out of the game so that the situation doesn't escalate.
Regarding Ford, I really hope he's okay. He's a good kid. Honestly, I hope he retires from the game of basketball. He's had too many close calls. His condition is too serious to mess around with. Ford is just coming off a stinger and now this. It sucks for him but there are more important things than basketball. He's a smart guy and I think he'll be fine without the game. I just don't want to see the time he goes down and can't get back up. Just walk away now.
Horford play was just stupid. Game was almost over.
As timvp explained, it was flagrant. Horford could also slow down the arm, after it was obvious, that he missed the ball.
Outcome was unfortunate. Horford reaction shows, he didn't intend to hurt T.J. in any way.
Get well TJ
