I wear Columbia flip-flops, camo shorts, and vent back fishing shirts any time the weather is warm enough. I'll even wear them to work sometimes in the summer. Any place that shorts are appropriate sandals are OK.

Hispanic men don't typically wear sandals in public places like the mall, restaurants or sporting events (somewhat of a broad stroke, I know). If they did, they would get lambasted for being 'poor huarache wearing Mexicans' or not having enough money to afford 'good' shoes. Caucasians can get away with wearing them, because 'they choose to' wear them, and not because they 'have to'. And before you laugh at the comment (as being completely off-base), I have heard this from several reputable hispanics in different walks of life.

I personally don't think that the argument is that black or white. In general, however, I'd prefer not to see other men's feet when I'm eating dinner or when I'm at the store checkout line, etc....

Of course a man can wear sandals. Sandals go well with linen pants, shorts and even jeans. I wear shoes all the time and of course you can't wear sandals on every occasion but sandals, to me are ok.
