You're missing out. The Shiner 99 and Shiner Black are both right there with the Bock.
i'll check for some alesmith stuff at grapevine here in austin. it's the best place we have for stuff like that. spec's is ok, but grapevine definitely has a better selection beerwise. if they have it up here i'll let you know in case you come through anytime soon.
You're missing out. The Shiner 99 and Shiner Black are both right there with the Bock.
up there but not better?
Im not a big beer guy, but I like me some bock and dos equis.
The 99 has potential to replace the Bock in my eyes, I just have a hard time admitting it after being a Bock drinker for 10+ years now![]()
I'm a Thunderbird man myself ... in the paper bag.
Olde English is good too.
AleSmith is not available in Texas, but I will be on a tour of their brewery next Wednesday
San Diego is becoming a new beer Mecca, IMHO. Stone, Pizza Port/Lost Abbey, AleSmith, Green Flash, Ballast Point, and more all call San Diego county home. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm hoping to bring some goodies home. Speedway Stout is almost impossible to come across, especially out of season (which it is now). Stone Oaked Bas likely won't be out yet either... but I'm thinking I could score some Port Cuvee de Tomme and Lost Abbey Angel's Share.
Back to OT... Shiner 99 is okay... good lawn mowing beer, but not something I'd ever find myself saying "you've GOT to try this beer".
I Love the "800".
I rarely drink 40s now. I used to drink between 3-5 a night.
I'm very close to replacing Bock with the Black Lager.
I can't get enough of the Black Lager.
So temping...
but taking the highroad...
Random Guy is a beer snob... his critique of Shiner 99 is that it's better than Shiner Bock. I don't drink beer, but he doesn't read the Club.
I had a Shiner Black Lager last Saturday, very well done, How does the 99 compare to it?
Im going to pick up a 6-er of the Black and wonder if I should also grab a 99 while Im there?
Shiner Black and a good cigar makes KEDA happy!
I'm a big fan of the 99.
I always keep a 6 pack of the stuff in the frig.
the frig?
yea, that's right.
I'm going to Sam's today to see how much a case of that stuff costs.
I'm thinking I'll end up buying a couple of cases.
I was at the World Beer Cup awards ceremony last night in San Diego, and Texas represented well, bringing home 5 medals. I'm doing my best to remember the exact categories, since there was a late night of drinking that followed the awards ceremony...
St. Arnold won gold with Divine Reserve #4 in the Strong Scotch Ale category and either bronze or silver (too lazy to look it up right now) for Elissa IPA in the International Pale Ale category.
Shiner took silver I believe for the dunkelweizen in the American Style Wheat Beer category.
Rahr from Ft. Worth took bronze (again, I think) for their bock.
The Covey from Ft. Worth took gold for their Vienna lager.
Texas bringing it... this follows a good showing by Texans at GABF last year. The local scene is on the come up... if only that new brewpub here in San Antonio would open already...
And while I'm here in the San Diego airport waiting for my flight, taking advantage of Free WiFi... here are some of the highlights from this trip:
Ballast Point bourbon barrel aged Black Marlin Porter
Port Brewing/Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme (Port/Lost Abbey took home Small Brewing Company of the Year)
AleSmith Speedway Stout (lived up to the hype)
New Belgium Black Folie (La Folie blended with black raspberry mead... mmmmmmmm...)
Pizza Port had this bad ass "Brown Bag Malt Liquor" at their Solana Beach location... very cool
So many others to mention... could go on forever.
Quick! Need advice!
I have a date tomorrow night. Good lookin girl, Hispanic, nice smile coming over for dinner. I think I'm making Italian sausage with penne, with a spinach and arugula salad.
Which is the best wine to serve at the table?
(a) M.D. 20/20, "Mad Dog", red grape flavor
(b) Cisco, green.
(c) Wild Irish Rose
(d) Night Train, or
(e) Thunderbird?
Mexican girl? Wine isn't an option. I say go with BuLight or una Buwhiser.
No. It has to be wine. This is a nice meal with candles and such. And I need the best wine.
So is Boone's Farm good?
I was recently treated to a nice red by the name of "Swill". Might suit your occasion!
Thunderbird, goes with every food and every race. Trust me![]()
If you're having Mad Dog, you gotta go with Blue Raspberry cuz it has "Bling Bling" written on it.
