Agreed.
LA Confidential was grossly underrated -- it got praise at the time, but is barely a footnote now.
Oh I don't know man. I could see how some people feel that way, but I really think that movie is gonna be taught in film schools everywhere in the coming years.
And NCFOM is a pretty good movie, so it wasn't as bad as losing to Shakespeare in Love or anything.
Agreed.

Rollo. Tomasi.
probably because Chinatown was way better.
Other good flicks released in 1997.
Suburbia
When We Were Kings
Rosewood
Rhyme and Reason
Donnie Brasco
Selena
Chasing Amy
Grosse Pointe Blank
Ulee's Gold
The Full Monty
Event Horizon
Seven Years in Tibet
Gattaca
As Good as It Gets
Jackie Brown
Ulee's Gold and Gattaca were great. I thought Chasing Amy was ok until she started shrieking, and then i wanted to puncture my eardrums.
Even though most of the footage was from the mid 70's, I thought the best movie that year was the do entary, "When We Were Kings."
If I had to pick a movie-movie as the best, I think I would go with "As Good As it Gets."
TPark, you see this, all this ?
It's not your fault.
Yes, but also Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire (which is slow, but one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen - the original City of Angels), and Until the End of the World, which was pretty bad in its cinematic release as it was a 5-hour min-series cut down to 3 hours and made no sense. In it's original form it's still very flawed, but thought provoking. Oftentimes Wim is more of a philosopher than a movie maker.
As Good As It Gets is another movie that's way up there for me ... I really liked that one too.
Aliens is one of my favorite movies because it was phenomenal to see in the theater.
And it was on last night.
Dont bull me lions.
I can only imagine what your top 5 is...
1. Rocky
2. Rocky II
3. Rocky III
4. Rocky IV
5. Rocky Balboa
You should PM me with some movie recommendations. We seem to have the same ideas about what makes a movie good to watch.
NCFOM was a fantastic movie. I'm a little surprised it won, but few movies I've ever seen have the ability to hammer home a point like the Coen's did. It was an extremely well-executed movie with a fantastic feel for it's own mood and setting.
GWH is a very good movie, introduced it to my girlfriend a few months ago and it was a very good revisit for me. My top 5...
Happiness
The Breakfast Club
Fight Club
Kill Bill (1-2)
Enter the Dragon
I've never seen Happiness. I did like "Welcome to the Dollhouse" and "Storytelling."
Here are my top five.
True Romance
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Pulp Fiction
Red Beard
Ikiru
I disagree. I think you are a huge movie afficianado.
