.....So the Rocket fans are coming out of the woodwork it seems these days now that they have a team worth talking about. Funny how you were nowhere to be found when the Rockettes were 20-24..........
I think the only thing worse than a flamers thread, is an incorrect flamers thread........

    What a ing tool.

What this tells HOU is that your team is better than the 2005-2007 Lakers. Because that is what we are without Pau, Bynum, and Ariza.

Despite missing Yao, you guys have been able to win games in a dominant fashion on both ends of the floor. What this tells any observer is that maybe Yao isn't as important to the Rockets as we all thought. Ewing Theory.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have shown that without a competent post presence they are a lottery team. When either Bynum or Pau has been out we are something like 3-6. Therefore, yes the Lakers being without their starting center, the guy brought in to replace the starting center, and the guy who is supposed to backup both of them, are worse off with the injuries they have.

It is not as simple as saying because so-and-so is out for both teams it should be a fair match. There are a lot more variables to the equation that need to be taken into account.

No, this shows us that the Rockets have a much better overall team than the Lakers. They lose their best player, but continue to win. If the Lakers lost Kobe for the season, then the Lakers would be . End of story.

hey here's an idea for ya...maybe...just maybe, since the Rockets without Yao are CLEARLY better than the fakers without pau...so we can come to the conclusion that:
    Rockets +Yao > fakers + pau (+your dreamboy dynum)
    and
    Rockets - Yao => fakers + pau(+your dreamboy dynum)

I mean, you admitted the fakers are a lottery team w/o pau, and clearly the Rockets are not a lottery team w/o Yao.

    just a thought.

Just for the Record, before Yao was hurt the Rockets were 16-0 with him as well......they won 4 games then he missed the Utah game and the team lost, then they won 12 more in a row until his injury was discovered.

So, look out Western conference, there is a new sherriff in town and they are named the HOUSTON ROCKETS !

Please explain this, given that Houston won it's last 16 games that Yao Ming started (they had a 4 game winning streak preceding the one loss right before the 22 Game streak and Yao missed that one loss).

They've won 10 in a row without Yao, yes. But they also won their last 16 in a row with him.

Houston, despite winning it's last 22, has really struggled offensively as of late. Without Yao, they are essentially a perimeter team that relies on strong D, crashing the glass, and defending hard to win games. But they'd be much more potent with a dominant postup big. Who the wouldn't?

Yao creates easier looks for his teammates and gets other teams into a foul trouble. When you sub him for Mutombo or Hayes, you may not lose much on D, but offensively, it's just a tremendous dropoff.

Again, over a 10 game sample, maybe you can grit it out. But long term the loss will be felt, unless of course Rafer Alston keeps pulling his Reggie Miller impersonation.

Remember the 94 Bulls? With MJ they had won 57 games in 1993. In 1994 with Pete Myers instead of MJ they won 55 games. Ewing Theory? Hardly a dropoff? I think not!

The Lakers are in a similar predicament as Houston. Horrible luck with injuries. They also have to find ways to win, like Houston somehow has...

I dont get it. some of you are saying that houston is jacking up threes but in fact the lakers are the ones whos sagging off from our three-point shooters. arent they suppose to shoot them when they are wide open? When Jordan Farmar and DFish went under the pick daring us to make a three?
and btw, we arent relying on threes by skip. u guys just caught an off night of TMac. we rely on defense and rebounds, the perennial formula for a championship.
and i would love to see someone post a clutchfans.net thread saying that we are the champs because we beat the undermanned lakers we are supposed to beat

I'd argue that the Lakers are incapable of winning with the players and system they have without a competent post presence. Is it any coincidence we were #1 in the league when Bynum was healthy and then #1 again when Gasol was healthy? You pair Kobe with a dominant post presence and good things happen.

    Kobe + Shaq = 3 rings
Kobe + Bynum = #1 in the WC
Kobe + Gasol = #1 in the WC

This thread was Epic. You have the first post being a Lakers fan trying to call out another team for having fair-weather fans, then getting owned by Rafer Alston and Shane Battier.

    Brilliant.

Kobe's great. However, regardless of capability of winning without a post presence, LA has to find a way to hold down the fort until Gasol is back.

The next 3 teams are brutal.

Any team right now, Houston included, is a bad stretch away from the lottery. You just cant afford too many losses.

How crazy would it be for a loaded team like LAL or SAS to get a 7 or 8 seed and then play someone like NOH or HOU in the first round. Who would be favored?

I think you are asking for too much. We aren't playing cupcake teams on this road trip, we are playing the best of the best in the WC. These games wouldn't be easy even if we had Gasol so what makes you think we are going to win them without him?
