Jacksonville and a NFC East representative.
I think it's going to be the Vikings and Colts.
They had the best record in the NFC last year...unfortunately, they made costly mistakes against the Giants, and the G-Men made all the right plays in the second half to win the game.
Obviously the Giants were a good team last year.....they beat two 13-3 teams and an 18-0 team three weeks in a row on their way to winning the Super Bowl.
Dallas should be better this year. They have added some nice depth throughout the lineup. They actually have a deeper secondary, when compared to last year. They are deeper at RB (give me Felix and Choice anyday over JJ and Tyson). My only real concerns depth wise are at QB and WR. I do not want to have to rely on Brad Johnson...I sure hope Simms gets cut and we sign him. I also am worried what will happen if TO goes down.
If healthy, our offense is one of the most potent in the NFL. Our defense is one of the best in the league as well.
What has me more excited than anything dealing with the players, is the additions of Houck and Campo. Our OL was very good at pass blocking, but our run blocking left a lot to be desired. Houck should definitely fix any blocking deficiencies we have. Our secondary play, was good, but not great. There were holes in the secondary and our technique was not up to snuff. Campo may not be a quality head coach, but there is one thing that he is great at....coaching the secondary. I look for Dallas to have a much improved secondary, not only talent wise, but also with technique, rotation, and scheme. IMO, Houck and Campo were two of our biggest offseason acquisitions.....
my only two concerns defensively are health (of course) and the play of Roy Williams. Can he return to the Roy of his first 3 years....or are we going to once again see the Roy of the last two years.....I have a feeling we will see the old former......
How Bout Dem Cowboys
I do not like the Vikings at all...but they have built themselves a nice little team up there. That defense is just nasty.....they are the new Purple People Eaters. I hope Brian Robison gets more playing time this year.
As far as the offense goes, of course it will revolve around Peterson. His rookie year was very Eric erson-like wasn't it. Only a fool would not make him the centerpiece of the offense, and Childress doesn't look like a fool. I cannot comment on the passing game. I know Jackson showed some progress, but he does have a ways to go. If the Vikings are going to do anything of significance this year, they will need Tavares to at least have a Dilfer (Baltimore) type year.
I picked the Chargers to represent the AFC, but I would not be shocked if Jacksonville was there instead. They have a lot of young talent on both sides of the ball. Their defense has definitely improved over the last few years. If they can get anything out of their TEs and WRs, they will be one scary team to play.
All these teams have a legit shot at the SB in the AFC
SD
NE
Indy
Jax
Pitt
Cleveland
Baltimore (if they get any assemblance of offense)
there are other teams in the AFC who will be playoff worthy, but not SB worthy
Maybe Jacksonville, but not with Del Rio calling the plays.
Why is everyone picking the Pats out of the AFC? Because of their reputation and going 18-1? They have lost so many key guys, the linebackers and the d-line are not that bad but its not like they are so great either. Most of our linebacking core is old as well as our secondary. The Pats arent a very good running team unless they play the Jets/Fins/Other pathetic run defenses. They are a 1 dimensional offense.
I dont expect much from them especially after this past season and how it broke my heart. I mean yeah theyll win the division with a 12-4/11-5 record and probably make it to the divisional round. This superbowl loss was a huge blow to this team and I have doubts theyll ever get over that. It was their first and only loss of the season and it couldnt have come at a worse time.
If people want to diss the Cowboys for losing to the Giants, then the Packers and Patriots should also be dissed. That Giants front 7 was just nasty last year. They ed up Tom Brady more than any other team had. The Cowboys made some critical mistakes but the Packers/Patriots did so as well. The bobbled snap was just bad luck. Plus even if they had won that game, they had holes on their d that would have caught up to them.
The Cowboys loaded up real nicely over the offseason. Their D is flat out sick. It is going to be the biggest strength to that team. Their O is going to be solid as well and their special teams will be dramatically improved. They have the talent to win it all. We will just have to see if that talent can mean great results. Thats why you play the games.
Scratch SD & Pittsburgh off that list. And I won't even get into how idiotic picking Baltimore is.
idiotic huh?....ok brainiac....
like i said, baltimore is a SB contender if they can find some offense. That D is still one of the, if not the best in the league.
