West is the toughness and hungry player that was lacking from last year's team. He's gonna be a huge asset in the playoffs when the Spurs need him.

If I were RC I'd beg him to sign for next year. The guy is still a 15 and 10 guy. That jumper is ridiculous how it's automatic.

I would not be surprised if they had a handshake about next year when West signed for peanuts this year. I believe he will be even more valuable then, especially if Tim hangs 'em up. West can perform as a leader in a way that I do not see anybody else on the team capable of performing in Tim's absence. Do not misunderstand: I am not saying that he can fill Tim's shoes on the court or in the locker room, but I do not see anybody other than the big 3 as leaders yet for the Spurs TNG. I do not think that LMA is that kind of guy. And we have yet to see if Kawhi is, but he would definitely prefer to lead by actions and not words. If Tim and Manu leave, I think Tony and West could become the de facto leaders.

I have loved this guy and his game since he was a real thorn in our sides playing for the Hornets. I have wanted the Spurs to figure out some way to bring the guy aboard every time he signed a new contract somewhere else. I just wish they would pair him with Aldridge (even though he does not want to play center) and pair Boris and Tim.

David West played like a MAN tonight. Early on, he seemed like the only player ready to go. If that is "playoff" David West, I'm thrilled. He was physical, made shots and played with at ude.

How the f*ck does Diva Aldridge get to say that he doesn't want to play center. That dude is ridiculous soft and got roughed up by the Cavs bigs. He couldn't even post up against Love even with his height advantage.

I say trade the dude for nothing!

West has been a HUGE "Bang For the Buck" guy. Especially compared to Aldridge. One of the best deals the Spurs have ever made...and West did it willingly. You just gotta love him.

Aldridge had a bad game tonight...but, he's helped give us this great record. Just have to see if he's really got the heart and mindset to be a winner and a champion. That is something he didn't show in Portland. He can score on a lesser team...can he win on a better one?

Well I definitely want to be proved wrong by Aldridge. So far, he does well against non-playoff teams. But do the Spurs really care about that? Anything less that a championship is a failure. So far, I haven't seen that passion. Dude can learn a lot from West.

No you don't. You say trade the dude for Noah and Gasol!

I think he had a better defensive presence last night than you are willing to concede. Also, in re-watching the game, I noticed that he did better against Love than Thompson. He could definitely learn a thing or two from Boban about toughness and positioning.

Last night was his first game as a Spur against really serious championship compe ion. I wonder what was going through his mind. LMA had gradually (if inconsistently) become more comfortable and somewhat more aggressive against the Spurs' soft schedule to date. But because of its intensity this game represented a reset of sorts. LMA seems to have reverted to early season form - passive, hesitant and deferential. As a member of the Blazers he was not in these kind of regular season games very often - certainly not with 3 or 4 potential HOFers in the lineup, veterans of championship wars, and Pop on the bench. I just wonder what the guy thought about the entire experience, especially in contrast to his entire NBA experience in a very different environment - without HOF teammates or coach. No doubt his Spurs teammates and coaches conducted themselves in a very different way from his former Blazers counterparts. All this on top of the fact that he was not being called on to carry the team.

At his current performance, no GM in is right mind is going to take on his $20m salary.

LMA is still getting comfortable he's been great on D all season and was amazing the last 2 before Cleveland. I think he'll come around but man if he only had balls like D West he would dominate anyone.

No, I sound like he is a veteran retooling his game, coming from a career spent entirely on a pretender to a team that is a dynastic contender with a very different culture and a distinctive, demanding system on the court. Subconsciously (at the very least) LMA has to be thinking that his teammates and Pop handle these type situations very differently than his former teammates and coaches. Learning and adjusting his game against lesser compe ion is one thing; learning and adjusting against top-tier compe ion in a near-playoff-intense game is on a higher level.

You and I have discussed LMA before. I have some serious questions about his value, too. But unlike you, I am biding my time before I pass judgment. We all knew he would need to make a big adjustment. Well, he's in the process of making it. Come playoffs, we will be in a position to judge whether he has made the transition or he hasn't.

So I don't see David West having trouble with the adjustment.

The dude is a max player, it is already past midseason, he should know by now how to get the job done.

If he doesn't deliver this next 9 games, we can call him a bust.

Plenty of posters thought that West was also a bust for the first month or more of the season. Now, most of them have remarked that West has been coming on stronger and stronger - clearly an indication that he is still in the process of adjusting, although making good progress. To state the obvious, some players take longer than others. There is no question in my mind that West has a much higher BBIQ than LMA.

If he doesn't deliver in the next nine games, you can call him a bust. I'll defer my assessment until the playoffs.

I didn't think that West was a high basketball IQ player, thought he was just average. Clearly the bar is pretty low for Aldridge.

It is f*cking disappointing honestly. It is like Aldridge is so one dimensional a player that barely know how to make an assist. He also looks so unathletic defensivelty with his hands just flailing all over the place.

To add insult to injury, the guy comes into Spurs practice overweight.

Never mind your utterly clueless takes about basketball. I would love to see either of you two nancy-boys stand in front of LaMarcus Aldridge and tell him that he doesn't have the balls to play in the NBA.

As for Aldridge "not getting it done"?

Parker Free Throw 2 of 2 Missed
    00:10.9 Aldridge Rebound (Off:2 Def:6)
Thompson Foul: Personal Take (3 PF) (2 FTA) (R Garretson) 00:09.7
    00:09.7 [SAS 98-93] Aldridge Free Throw 1 of 2 (5 PTS)
    00:09.7 [SAS 99-93] Aldridge Free Throw 2 of 2 (6 PTS)

In January, he's stepped up to 18.2 points per game, and 10.2 rebounds, and he's 13-14 from the FT line. (Don't know if that includes last night.)

Oh, and he averages 17.5 PPG on the road vs. 15.5 at home. Seems to me he's played pretty good when the Spurs needed him the most. Some of you don't seem to understand that there are two teams on the floor, and some of them are also pretty good. Last night was one of those times, and the Spurs won as a team.

If he doesn't deliver this next 9 games, we can call him a bust.
And that? Even for you, that's ridiculous talk. Exactly 9 games, and he's done?
