What was it?
Awww he misses his cuddle time with Drake and Lowry. They were about to turn on you Demar. When the team is mediocre and you make 32M, they turn on youZ
But does he love sa![]()
Demar seems to be more comfortable the last ten games. Just needs to cut down on those turnovers.
His game is not the kind of offensive style that works in playoffs, I can understand why he hasn't been successful. He looks for the contact a lot in his 1on1 actions and that's not a good thing to do in playoff time when defenses tighten up and refs don't call fouls that easily. Too often he doesn't get the foul and action finishes with a turnover, a blocked shot or him in the floor not being able of returning in transition D. That's why he couldn't lead his Raptors to beat the good east teams they faced.
I believe Popovich and the Spurs can help DeRozan to take his game to the next level. Don't get me wrong, he's not going to become a completely different player but he can do a lot reducing his weaknesses. Now, almost finishing the end of the RS, we can notice some work in progress:
- Passing ability. Demarr has been the main playmaker for this team this season. He can take the ball, beat his man and attract double teams and find the open man whether he has to make a pass to paint, find a cutter or kick it out to a shooter.
- His defense is starting to look better. He has the physical tools and he's been enough in the league to perform well in the defensive end. The team doesn't need him to be a stopper but he must play correct defense in order to contribute to the very good level of collective defense needed to do important things in this league. His positioning is improving, he's helping out better and there is an obvious coaching work behind the curtains. He's accepting responsibilities and taking pride in his defensive game.
Areas of improvement.
- 3pt shooting. The legendary Spurs shooting improvement coaching should help him. The first step is for the next season he's comfortable shooting corner threes regularly and making just above 0.300. Ideally, an off the dribble 3pt shot would make him unstoppable, given his ability and strength to penetrate and finish/assist but I don't think it will happen. The minimum mandatory improvement for the next season should be feasible for him (0.310 past season) and could be enough for the Spurs if Murray does the same, taking both the shots when they're open instead of forcing the issue or passing.
- Scoring vs good defenses in the clutch time. Well, that's an area of improvement for anybody in the league but, thinking on returning to the WCF or NBA finals, Popovich and him should work on finding better scoring opportunities for him as every member of the legendary Spurs big three had.
I think DeRozan has very good leadership skills and he's naturally becoming a respected leader in the court and the locker room. He clearly is a team-first player that also accepts his responsibility in closing games. Things aren't going his way as often as he'd like this year but he keeps fighting and at the end of the day, he doesn't make excuses. I believe he'll become a Spurs fan base favorite soon.
He shouldn't have the ball in his hands as the primary playmaker in the last 2 minutes. Pop has tried to give him Manu's old job, and he's not quite up for the task. The Spurs biggest problem is that they really don't have a closer.
His role more reminds me of Tony Parker especially since he is not taking 3s.
can we please revert this thread to its original name? it was supposed to be the Oncology Clinic of DeMar DeRozan
DeMar working out with @dribble2much. Also in DeMar’s old college of USC
Seems appropriate, tbh.DeMar working out with @dribble2much.
Looks to me like he's still mostly working on the same, ugly ass game that has gotten him nowhere. Extend your range, got. Also loves repping SoCal but not the Spurs.
He makes it really ing hard to like him, tbh.
At least he is working on something.
BTW why hasn't anyone ever taught him how to properly set up his fadeaway? He does all this soft, finesse crap (pump fakes, shoulder fakes, hesitation move when he has his back to the basket)...when simply throwing his body into the defender would be so much more effective. That's practically all Nephew ever does and his fadeaway is the closest thing to MJ's.
Another year where people are gonna blow their load over his inefficient 20/6/6.
All those pump fakes, shoulder fakes, hesitations are done in slow motion too. Almost without purpose. His game is just so hideous, man. I just watched some clips of Nephew's fadeaway and it's like night and day smh.
DDR sucks
He is the worst good player I can think of
Trade him if you can find a sucker to offer a decent deal
thank god the spurs haven't offered this bonehead an extension.
Looks like he stopped bring the ball back so far behind his head, tbh.
and also: why doesn‘t he wear his hair like Leonard? That‘s a shame!
DDR actually has the same problem Kawhi had on his shot. Brings the ball way behind his forehead, tbh.
what a ing joke. don’t see a single three taken in this re ed highlight reel
