I just transferred the service to the new phone when I got my Treo.
Now, if you're getting a new phone with the massive rebates, then it's the rebates that require the new plan/contract.

cingular was a joint venture between sbc and bellsouth. i doubt that they would have bought out their daddy, especially considering that att is buying out bellsouth.

i reckon it's just a name change to help differentiate att's/sbc's (cingular) cell phone division with the former att's wireless service.
