We're seeing counts of infections and deaths rise in rural counties. Just in time to bring more infections back to the cities after reopening.

Big political blowback for anyone who pushed to reopen too early when states reissue shelter in place orders, but gotta imagine Trump will push back on COVID-19 mitigation measures anytime before the election as having been politically inspired.

I mentioned yesterday that my brother's restaurant already started ignoring it. Can only imagine how many other places are too.

Trump Praised Texas For Reopening — Some State Lawmakers Don’t Agree

Trump meeting with Greg on Thursday. He'll most definitely praise Abbott again, but it'll be interesting to see how lavish or how vanilla the praise will be

Basically consumers have choices to make for the businesses that did decide to reopen.
It is an acute capitalistic scenario. We live in the now. Plans for the future unknown.

So now we may have produced a whole new avenue for spreading this thing for the future and for the people that did not decide to participate except on a subsistence level. We do have to buy food and some other stuff where contact is made with the participaters. So hope the summer does have maximum environmental impact on this virus. I wish it could penetrate the lungs... yes...

The only way to do it at a high occupancy place like sit down restaurants is to have a bouncer counting heads at the door and I'm not seeing it.

That's assuming restaurants would even do it. Some aren't even requiring employees or customers to wear masks. These places will do anything for an extra buck...especially now.

Opening was always going to be dubious. We couldn't trust everyone to do the right thing when everything was shut down.

Now that inches are being given? No way. They'll take 5 miles.

I think as long as we never turn into NYC, people just aren't going to stop giving a . I drove by a dog park near my house yesterday and it was packed, people were on top of each other. I've never seen it like that even in normal times. I'm seeing more and more people in stores without masks.

Point is, people are just going to do what they want to do.

Eventually there will be enough bodies in the corner to grab everyone's attention. Just sad that it has to come to that.

"(KWTX) Another Texas prison inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 has died, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice says.

Danilo Garza, 65, who was serving a life sentence at the Eastham Unit out of Cameron County, died on Monday at Hospital Galveston to which he was admitted on April 28.

To date 504 prison system employees, staff and contractors and 1,336 inmates have tested positive for the virus.

Five employees and 23 offenders have died.

Sixteen other deaths are under investigation.

More than 40 units including four in Central Texas are on lockdown because of the virus.

One inmate has tested positive for the virus at the William R. Boyd Unit in Teague; four employees and one inmate have tested positive at the Alfred D. Hughes Unit where 45 inmates are on medical restriction and two are isolated; 67 inmates and 19 employees have tested positive at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit where 75 inmates are isolated and 585 are medically restricted; and 14 inmates and 10 employees have tested positive at the Linda Woodman State Jail where 16 inmates are isolated and 188 are medically restricted...."

Fwiw, all the deaths mentioned, both employees and inmates are age 49+

So you're saying they need an even greater social distance than 6 feet? Yeah, maybe so
