Josh Marshall Sees Hints of A Coming Deluge

Josh Marshall over at TPM has been looking at the internals of the ABC News 2016 Election Tracking poll, which says:

Likely voters by a vast 69-24 percent disapprove of Trump’s response to questions about his treatment of women.

After a series of allegations of past sexual misconduct, the poll finds that some women who’d initially given him the benefit of the doubt have since moved away.

See PDF with full results, charts and tables here.

59% of likely voters, moreover, reject Trump’s suggestion that the election is rigged in Clinton’s favor, and more,

65%, disapprove of his refusal to say whether he’d accept a Clinton victory as legitimate.

Most strongly disapprove, a relatively rare result.

He notes that within a week we’ve gone from Clinton + 4 to Clinton + 12.

But here's the key, the big deal ...

The previous ABC/Post poll found a sharp 12-point decline in enthusiasm for Trump among his supporters, almost exclusively among those who’d preferred a different GOP nominee. Intended participation now has followed:

The share of registered Republicans who are likely to vote is down 7 points since mid-October.

    Sayeth Marshall:

I'm not sure I've ever seen a drop off in likelihood to vote which is so rapid and so soon before an election.

To be fair, this isn't really a number I'm even used to looking for.

You don't usually have sharp drop offs like that before an election.

People on both sides tend to get morepumped up, more driven to partisan affiliation.

Usually you are looking at who's getting their voters more activated.

With numbers of Republican voters apparently resigned to doing something other than voting on election day, ... Marshall says that if the polls over the next few days show similar levels of GOP “pre-occupation,” the GOP may very well be looking straight into the Big Wave.

Trump receives an in-kind insanity contribution from Sean Hannity

In what was touted as a major “exclusive” interview, Fox News’ Sean Hannity revealed the iden y of Bill and Hillary Clinton’s alleged “fixer,” who told the National Enquirer he worked to keep embarrassing stories about the former first family out of the press while helping set up their extramarital affairs, including “a lesbian romp for bisexual Hillary with a prominent Hollywood iden y!”

That does sound like a bombs . All right, who is this noble man who has come forward to tell America of Clinton's lesbianism and/or affair with Vince Foster and/or dozens of corpses buried under the White House bowling alley?

Novelist Jeff Rovin, former editor of the Weekly World News — a now-defunct supermarket tabloid credited with publishing such scoops as

“BAT CHILD FOUND IN CAVE!” and

“BAT CHILD ESCAPES!” as well as breaking political stories including

“BILL CATCHES HILLARY WITH SPACE ALIEN!” and

    “HILLARY ADOPTS ALIEN BABY.”

Yes. The former editor of the Weekly World News now says he is the super-secret operative Bill and Hillary Clinton hired to make sure nobody started any wacky rumors about them. It checks out.

Though I would have led with "Hillary Adopts Alien Baby", myself. Way to bury the lede, Hannity.

Newt Gingrich goes berserk when Fox News Megyn Kelly referred to Trump as a sexual predator

The interview was already contentious when a couple of words from Megyn Kelly turned it explosive. (Video here.)

"You want to know why Trump has had a rough time?" Newt Gingrich asked.

"If Trump is a sexual predator," Megyn Kelly said. "That is ..."

"He is not a sexual predator," Newt Gingrich shouted.

"That's your opinion," Kelly said. "I am not taking a position on it."

"You could not defend that statement," an unhinged Gingrich shouted. "Now I am sick and tired of people like you, using language that's inflammatory that's not true."

"Excuse me Mr. Speaker," Kelly interjected. "You have no idea whether it is true or not. What we know is that at least ..."

    "Neither do you," Gingrich shouted.

"That's right," Kelly replied. "And I am not taking a position on it unlike you. So what I said is incorrect?"

"Yes you are," Gingrich replied. "When you use the words you took a position. And that is very unfair of you Megyn. I think that is exactly the bias people are upset by."

"I think that your defensiveness on this may speak volumes, sir," Kelly replied. "What I said is if -- no, no, no, -- let me make my point and then I will give you the floor. What I said is if Trump is a sexual predator, then it is a big story.

And what we saw on that tape was

Trump himself saying that he likes to grab women by the genitals and kiss them against their will. That's what we saw.

Then we saw ten women come forward after he denied actually doing it at the debate to say that was untrue. 'He did it to me. He did it to me.' We saw reporters.

We saw people who had worked with him; people from Apprentice and so on and so forth.

He denies it all which is his right. We don't know what the truth is.

My point to you is, as a media story we don't get to say the ten women are lying. We have to cover that story, sir."

Gingrich then went into full spin mode.

He attempted to characterize the media as biased for covering more about the growing Trump sexual predator scandal than Clinton speeches to banks, a false equivalency. He then unleashed his anger and abuse again.

"You want to go back to the tapes of your show recently?" Gingrich shouted. "You are fascinated with sex. And you don't care about public policy. That's what I get out of watching you tonight."

"You know Mr. Speaker," Megyn Kelly said. "I am not fascinated by sex. But I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we are getting in the Oval Office. And I think the American voters would like to know."

Oversampling? Trump making same wrong claim about polls that conservatives used in 2012

Donald Trump is making the same mistake as President Mitt Romney.

He insists that public polls showing him trailing Hillary Clinton are biased results because they "oversample" Democrats.

But that's exactly the same argument that a lot of conservatives used in 2012, wrongly convincing themselves that Romney would win easily and waking up shocked to find they were wrong and the polls were right.

The problem is, they claim something about the way polls are conducted that simply isn't true.

That isn't stopping Trump from railing against "oversampling."

"When the polls are even, when they leave them alone and do them properly, I'm leading," he said. "But you see these polls where they're polling Democrats. How's Trump doing? Oh, he's down. They're polling Democrats. The system is corrupt and it's rigged and it's broken."

Other conservatives were also solidly convinced in 2012 that pollsters' "oversampling" of Democrats was hiding the truth that Republican presidential nominee Romney was leading in bent President Barack Obama — by a lot.

Donald Trump knows he's losing, but he thinks his voters are too stupid to catch on

the truth is that Donald Trump knows he is losing.

Despite Trump’s claim that he doesn’t believe the polls, his San Antonio research team spends $100,000 a week on surveys (apart from polls commissioned out of Trump Tower) and has sophisticated models that run daily simulations of the election.

The results mirror those of the more reliable public forecasters—

in other words, Trump’s staff knows he’s losing. Badly.

“Nate Silver’s results have been similar to ours,” says Parscale, referring to the polling analyst and his predictions at FiveThirtyEight, “except they lag by a week or two because he’s relying on public polls.”

Trump is fully aware of his position, and of his very likely defeat.

He knows—knows from his own campaign—that it’s not any sort of election fraud taking him down. It’s simply the will of the voters.

So why keep pressing the “it’s rigged” button? A big part is due to what Trump is planning for after the election.

“Trump will get 40 percent of the vote, and half that number at least will buy into his claim that the election was rigged and stolen from him,” says Steve Schmidt, John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign chief and an outspoken Trump critic. “That is more than enough people to support a multibillion-dollar media business and a powerful presence in American politics.”

Donald Trump isn’t running to be president of the United States. He’s campaigning to head an ongoing low-boil insurrection and traveling tent revival of hate.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/1...28Daily+Kos%29

Donald Trump’s “rigged election” lie is working: 73 percent of GOP voters think election could be stolen

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released on Monday — conducted among 1,999 registered voters Oct. 13 through Oct. 15 — found that 73 percent of the Republicans surveyed said they think the election could be stolen from Trump. And as many as 85 percent of Trump supporters reported not feeling the election could be fair.

And a new Washington Post/ABC News poll has found that half of Trump’s supporters are “not confident” that the “votes for president across the country will be accurately counted this year.”

The Post poll also discovered that 69 percent of Trump voters believe that “voter fraud” happens very often or somewhat often.

    http://www.salon.com/2016/10/17/dona...olen-from-him/

another poll showed 505+ of Repug voters will not accept the legitimacy of Hillary's Presidency.

goddam, you Repugs, rightwingnuts, assholes really are ing stupid, ignorant, and deeply anti-American, anti-Cons utional.

DNC files legal action against RNC for election violations—Republicans are Trump-f*cked again

his whining has led him incite his supporters to vigilantly watch voters on election day to make sure there is no “rigging.” Trump tells his crowd to poll-watch, adding, “You know what that means.

No, tell us, Donald, because if what “that means” is even close to how Republicans monitored voting stations in key minority districts back in 1981, it will spell out big trouble for Republicans, as if they’re not already swimming drowning in it now.

a new legal action filed in federal court by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) against the Republican National Committee (RNC) for racist intentional voter intimidation. This is not the first time the RNC has been accused of such.

Back in 1981, Republican Party “watchmen,” some of whom were off-duty policemen and security guards, showed up in minority districts donning guns and wearing armbands. They were going to make sure the election went their way

    — and it did. Posters were put up containing the word “WARNING” in giant red text and a reward of $1,000 was offered for reporting bonafide fraud. The posters also included a phone number, which led callers directly to a Republican National Party office.

Since then, the RNC was has been under a court-ordered consent decree that severely limits their election activities due to their actions in 1981.

With his continuous call for big, bad poll-watchers to pack and head to polling stations, he has nixed the RNC ability to slide out from under the decree in 2017, and caused the DNC to launch a legal action in a federal court claiming the RNC is violation of the court. This failure to comply will most likely extend the RNC’s consent decree for another eight years. Sucks to be a Republican right now. But then, they built this.

Donald Trash cheats on local and state taxes, turning Trash facilities into drains on communities

... do ents obtained by The Huffington Post show that the candidate has also repeatedly fought to lower the amount he pays in state and local taxes, in some cases telling authorities that his properties are worth tens of millions of dollars less than he’s claimed in his federal election filings.

Except Trump’s campaign has been arguing that, even if it’s true that he paid no federal taxes for decades (it’s true), he still pays out gobs of state and local taxes.

… Trump’s aggressive tax tactics are not always consistent with his personal financial disclosures, nor with his campaign’s insistence that the state and local taxes his company pays offset the massive federal income tax deduction he has apparently claimed.

Trump has cheated at every level from the exceptionally large to the unbelievably petty—even prying money out of a local public library.

Money Flows Down Ballot as Donald Trump Is Abandoned by Big Donors (Even Himself)

a river of cash from some of the Republican Party’s biggest donors has begun to flow down to Senate and House races in the final days of the 2016 campaign.

tens of millions of dollars in late donations and transfers to Republican “super PACs” focused on down-ballot races, suggesting a significant last-ditch effort to protect Senate and House candidates against Mrs. Clinton’s surge.

Relatively little new money has come into outside groups supporting Mr. Trump.

And Mr. Trump appears to have lost the support of his biggest donor: himself.

    Incitement to violence, blatantly

BULLSH**TER OF THE DAY: Joe Walsh, for clarifying that his gun tweet was actually a freedom tweet

The former congressman doubles down on his anti-Hillary message, saying gun people don't grab muskets or something

“If I wanted people to take up arms, why would I recommend people take up an antique like a musket?

I mean, seriously, in 2016 I want people to go out and find a musket, grab their musket? That’s just silly.

If she wins fair and square, then the anger that a lot of Americans have toward our political system — and she’s part of that — we’ve got to double down and triple down and do whatever we can to defend our freedom.

–Joe Walsh, on CNN, Oct. 28, 2016

    Joe Walsh
    ✔@WalshFreedom

On November 8th, I'm voting for Trump.

On November 9th, if Trump loses, I'm grabbing my musket.

    You in?

    3:02 PM - 26 Oct 2016

His whole statement is contradictory and a heap of bull .

On the one hand, he is claiming that by saying “grab your musket” he is not driving people to violent rebellion against the system.

On the other hand (and in the same sentence) he is saying that “they” (angry white America?) need to “do whatever we can to defend our freedom.”

Of course it is. Why would a Muslim-hating, Muslim-killing Marine write such a NASTY note to a raghead ?

A real Marine, his balls full of trigger-happy, blood-thirsty testosterone and Marine courage, would confront the Muslim face to face, wouldn't he?
