I thought he was OK last night but only average. Still indecisive. Drives when he should pull up. Pulls up when he should continue the drive. Forces it into traffic and gets blocked. Was hoping he would have imitated Prime Manu moreso by now. (Calm down SpurFan I mean further along in the process, not being Prime Manu at this point.)
Don't understand why Simmons got 32 and Dedman Bertie Murray trio got zero.
That having been said, total props for baiting Bearded Kardashian into the offensive foul. Loved it.
Won't name names, but I remember when some people on this forum wanted Simmons cut and Livio Jean Charles on the team in July.
Only average
His elbows are too pointy imo
I think more importantly, the reigns are falling off of him. He's starting to find his groove without looking over his shoulder every minute to see if he's going to get yanked like he was all season.
The more confidence he gets, the better he will be.
Some suspects also wanted him cut so the team can make room for both Forbes and Garino
I'm glad I wasn't one of them. During the preseason almost everyone gave up on him, but I said that I wasn't quite ready to give up on him. I got down on him during the season, especially towards the end when he started falling out of the rotation (just like last season), but I think he has definitely turned it around.
Maybe he could use his pointy elbows to drag a washcloth over you and begin the cleanup process. After Manu took yet another huge steaming all over you.
There were a couple of argentinean fans that wanted that.
To be fair to everyone, he's made strides. He had a very uneven entire season.
But he put it together when it mattered...
And I said since middle of the season, even when he was scrubbing things up, that he still had time to turn things around and get paid with a good postseason performance.
Now it's up to free agency to see what happens.
Not a good sign for Spurs. This dude is signing to whatever team pays the most.
Simmons is gone for sure, tbh
He would be foolish to stay with the Spurs, tbh..5 kids, never made any real money, and will likely never play anywhere near as well as he did for those 2 weeks in the playoffs..get your money, my ..
This. Good for him, tbh.
Oh yeah. Cash in brother. Do it. And don't waste that , but you already got 5 kids so... Too late.
hanga should be a pretty seamless replacement for simmons
And he'll ride the bench for the first 2 yrs. So hopefully he'll be ready for the 2020 playoffs.
simmons has only been here for 2 years... and hanga has more experience
As he should. The guy was legit considering being a barber 3 years ago, with 4 very young girls. Anyone expecting a discount or a 1 and 1 deal will be disappointed. Also, Pop said end of season he's happy for Simmons bc he's going to have an NBA career now... never said "he's the future" or something like that.
So, I think overall they will aim to retain him but are probably aware he could be way overpriced.
In fact I think Simmons aims to start for an NBA team next season. I remember at the Rising Star game he mentioned he wanted to be an all star. I have no idea if he can achieve that, but it's unlikely to happen while he's in the Spurs bench. He's going to get a bigger role in a different NBA team.
Btw, this is a general statement is not aimed at you. We have all speculated about his future in the Spurs or not.
Mine was more a statement that winning is not a priority for him. Probably money, then role, then winning. He may sign one of those poison pill contracts making it hard for the Spurs to retain him. I wouldn't hold it against him.
Would suck to lose him, Dedmon, Ginobili & Mills all in the same off-season. He has shown enough to at least be able to replicate Manu's production of the last few seasons.
Although, there maybe a few similar skilled SG's available through a trade or free agency (Will Barton, Josh Richardson, Ben McLemore, etc.).
Well, if Simmons didn't improve his defense to the level he showed in the playoffs, I wouldn't have a problem letting him go if some team overpays him. As I'm defense first, I'm really reluctant to let him go because he showed he can play some great defense in the playoffs. I still don't really want to overpay, though as his 3 point shot isn't consistent, but if he can consistently play defense like he showed in the playoffs without fouling, he'd be a good player to have with all the firepower some of the other top teams have.
