This isn't a trial with a captive jury. It's hard enough communicating detail to 12 people sitting in a box for 8 hours a day. Your average citizen will read the news for what, 30 minutes? A simple, direct, and easily digestible narrative is how you win this - tangentially relevant details about communiques to/from the ambassador from Moldova obfuscate. I don't see how they help.
And that's not even mentioning the boy-who-cried-wolf syndrome a lot of this reporting falls prey to in the hopes of drumming up clicks.

My general working theory is that self-identified conservatives aren't honest. Not answering good faith, honest questions tend to support that.
