System had a little bit of dust, but definitely wouldn't say it was bad at all. Turns out is is a 3900x 12-core in there. Gonna mess around with some driver updates and see if that helps. Might even uninstall and reinstall for the of it.
Are you targeting 144 fps / 165 fps or something high like that? And what resolution? Shooters tend to be pretty cpu bound and a 3900x isn't a great fit with a 3090 when it comes to gaming these days if you're trying to push high framerate instead of high resolution. Even the Ryzen 5 5600 that can be found new on amazon for $140 beats the 3900x in gaming when cpu bound by like 20% in this testsuite from Techpowerup done at 720p to force a cpu bound:

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/a...5-5600/14.html

With a BIOS update you could likely upgrade your cpu up to a Ryzen 7 5800x3D on your board and the 5800x3D is by far the best gaming cpu on AM4. It's only 8 cores but it has the benefit of much better IPC from the newer Zen architecture of the 5000 series plus a big bump in cache per core, both of which make it really well suited for high refresh rate gaming.

Of course I would run a program like MSI Afterburner with RTSS stats turned on to test your gameplay. If your gpu usage isn't 95%+ when you're seeing stutters it's not the gpu's fault, and is likely the cpu and/or RAM's fault.

Ryzen 9 3900x is actually pretty close to the gaming performance the current gen consoles have in their cpus. PS5 and XBox Series S/X have what's equivalent to slightly underclocked Ryzen 7 3700x and core count above 6 isn't really showing much benefit these days. It's one of the reasons on youtube you'll see ridiculous videos from PC Master Race complaining that the PS5 and Series X are like an i3 and a GTX 1070 because they'll test shooters in 120 Hz mode and the Ryzen 7 3700x equivalents in the consoles don't hold up as well as say an i3-12100F when you're cpu bound.

Though the king of the hill for gaming right now is the Ryzen 7 7800x3D, but you'd need a new board and DDR5 RAM for it. The x3D chips have extra cache vs the standard Ryzen chips and target gaming performance.

Another problem could be are you running your RAM full speed? Especially when cpu bound if you're running your RAM at the DDR4-2133 speed that your BIOS would probably default to you could be leaving a lot of performance on the table. Especially for times when your framerate dips, as RAM speed can have a noticeable effect on the minimum framerates you see. I remember when I upgraded my RAM from DDR3-1600 to DDR3-2400 I went from having one area in GTA V that would drop into the low 50s fps every time to it staying above 60 fps. Fallout 4 was another cpu bound game that I improved my minimum framerates by about 15% just from the faster system RAM. You'll definitely want to run your RAM at its rated XMP profile. On AMD it seems to be called DOCP or EOCP, depending on who made your board, while it's called XMP on Intel.

Thanks amigo. I'll try some of this stuff, as soon as I actually figured out how to do any of it

I built this PC, but I'm definitely not a computer guy. I picked out all the specs by walking into Microcenter after my 2070 went on the fritz, and said I wanted to build a monster machine (it was the pandemic, and we were all spending a lot of time at home working, and then playing Warzone after the kids went to bed). The little nerdy dude pointed me at all the , and I bought it.

Will work on figuring out more sheet - really appreciate you responding.

Dead Island 2 looks ing sexy and fun.

It’s looking to be what Dying Light 2 didn’t live up to. I’m getting the itch to play a zombie game after a few years of burn out on the genre.

I hope it's good because I have a free copy coming at launch that I got with my gpu, but this game has been in development like 10-12 years and kept getting delayed and changed studios multiple times, so I'd say not to get your hopes too high with this one. Same dev team that did Homefront The Revolution, so if this is good it'll be their first.

Homefront might be the worst game i've ever played not gonna hold my breath on this. I absolutely loved Dying Light but Dead Island was trash imo

speaking of DL - since it was free the other day on Epic (even though i already owned it on Steam ) ive been playing through it again. GOAT zombie game (if you dont consider LoU infected to be zombies)

Oh yeah there’s no way I’m buying this game day 1. I’ll see what the reviews say.

I’m currently on my platinum play through of P5 Royal.

Thought about picking it up from my old save with the base game since I have roughly 30 or so trophies already but Royal has more content and I needed a refresh on gameplay anyway.

Nice. If there is a good sale on it in Golden Week next month I highly recommend Persona 4 Golden too.

it’s gotten good reviews across the board thus far so that’s good.

Looks like fun but I have so many heavy hitters in my backlog right now and I'm not going to put it ahead of Horizon Forbidden West, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Shin Megami Tensei V, Judgment, Like a Dragon Ishin, or Cyberpunk and I'm playing Yakuza Like a Dragon right now, will probably play Zelda at launch when it comes out next month, and maybe FFXVI in June. Dead Island 2 is probably going pretty deep in my backlog, especially with Spiderman 2, Like a Dragon 8, Like a Dragon Gaiden, Starfield, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 slated for release this year. Ugh I gotta stop buying games.

And forgot TLOU Part 1 now that the PC port has become less ty and my hardware can finally brute force it into acceptable 1440p performance.

Finally got to a berserker fight in NG+… just the basic one from Midgard. And man, the difficulty increase in the fight was noticeable. Most of the game, as is typically the case, is easier in NG+ because your character is broken by then. But they definitely tuned up the berserkers. Definitely dreading the gank fights now

in addition to the berserkers having some new movesets, just seems they do insane damage on GMGOW+. most berserker fights ive been getting killed in one hit. and they have hyperarmor out the gate so you usually cant open fights with significant runic spam.

and baseline bum, in that fight you hated where the berserker kept spawning more minions, those guys spawn in WITH hyperarmor so you cant just quickly dispose of them the way i used to. and those guys would kill me in 2 hits or so.

ive found the best way to engage these fights is just the busted endgame set... use the full berserker armor set and the hilt you got from berserker king. just use the relic at every opportunity and let it do the damage for you, then just survive until it refreshes. the armor set helps refresh your relic either by landing attacks or blocking/parrying.

but this fight in particular. i dont mind difficult fights, but these fights with multiple enemies lead to such bull deaths where i feel like theres no ability to respond. the one on one fights are still challenging and very fun to engage head on. very much looking forward to hrolf and gna later. i'd probably make a more realm shift build for those. but these gank fights force me to fight this way instead. i went berserker hunting as soon as i was able to access them, so i think i have one left in the crater area of vanaheim and then its just the endgame ones in niflheim and hrolf

So Jedi Survivor looks to be dog on PC. I saw a German stream where they got an advance copy and were pulling 35 fps at 1440p with a Ryzen 5 5900X and an RTX 4090. ROFL using 18GB of VRAM at 1440p.

It definitely looks way better than Dying Light 2. Dying Light 2 somehow had the ability to look like and run like together, and the game was so broken on PS5.

Glad I played it on series x then I had a couple audio bugs but nothing major. It just was not up to the standards of the first game. No guns, ty grappling hook, weak story, a bunch of stuff that was fun about part 1 was missing from part 2. Just a disappointing game overall

I played it on PS5 about three months after launch and literally 1/3 of story missions would bug out and require me to reload a save. Like someone I needed to interact with to do the mission wouldn't spawn or I'd spawn stuck in a room with the doors locked. Even without the bugs I would have thought it was a ty game though. Biggest disappointment was how boring combat was. The first game you'd be slicing zombies heads off constantly, cutting their arms off, all sorts of fun violent . But in DL2 most of the combat felt like the first hour of DL1 when you were just smacking zombies with table legs and pipes and you'd get none of the satisfying gore that you'd get once you had swords and sickles and stuff.

Anyone of yall "play" The Quarry? My lady is into zombies and we have my XB1 at her pad so I got her that game and she loves it, because it's not much gaming at all and mainly just a movie of sorts, but she's wanting me to get her Dying Light on my PS4.

I've been pretty blown away though by how real at times The Quarry looks on the XB1 and can't even imagine what it might look like on a new gen console.

I see Dyling Light got great reviews so I guess I'll be getting it soon for my lady. I'm glad she's been wanting to game recently so I can do my hobbies in peace while at her place.

Never played The Quarry, but Dying Light 1 is such violent fun. It's made to look like a bad zombie B-movie and has the ominous music down and I love the art style, especially the way the lighting is done just gives the area a creepy vibe. The combat feels slow and clunky at first but once you're like 2-3 hours into it and can start equipping swords and sickles it really becomes a ton of violent fun. Story is nothing special but action is awesome and it's so addictive. I think I played through it four times and I don't usually give games second playthroughs. Dying Light 2 sucks though, such a disappointing game. Like half the people who post in the Tech forum were addicted to Dying Light 1 back in 2015 when it came out. And I think it still holds up great today.

    Thanks for the analysis bro!

Yeah my lady seems to be excited over DL1's trailer and reviews so I guess it's a foregone conclusion that I'll end up buying it for her this week. Glad I got the consoles and she's getting into games so I can have some more time doing my computer and whatnot while she's gaming.

All these studios expecting people to pay 75 bucks for broken games. Lmao

Deep discount like I did with the first. I bought Fallen Order for like 10 dollars. Lol
